So, while Missy's avatar continues to haunt my waking dreams, my post of yesterday got mysteriously terminated just when it was getting interesting ... I'm a big fan of Horror Movies, and have been reading about films like "Hostel", "The Hills Have Eyes", "Wolf Creek", & "The Devil's Rejects" in my newspaper, though I've yet to find any of them in the local "Blockbuster". Yesterday however you guys came up with a whole bunch of titles that I'd never heard of. I wanted to make a note of them, but when I looked again this morning ... ALL GONE!!! "Hostel" was one of them I think, and another was "August Underground" I've now learned ... but that's all I remember. Any chance you could post, or pm me, those other titles again? Thanx! Alice |

august underground and AU mordum. and murder set pieces. all toe tag pictures related. theres plenty reviews of this online for you to decide whats worth getting. I'd say they're all worth watching once. MSP is way more watchable. but that's really not saying much. |

yeah, I mentioned August Underground and Murder-Set-Pieces, as well as the Guinea Pig films. if you want to see gore for the sake of gore, and films which supposedly are trying to "push the limits", you're set. I personally feel that they are way too low budget (most of them shot on digital video) and boring. I love me some gore, but in the context of a good plot with some decent acting. pushing the limits in a regular film, that's interesting. pushing the limits in a film that is nothing but pushing the limits and basically just porno, not so shocking to me (and that's not a knock against porn, just saying that when something is made specifically to be nothing but a series of grossout scenes and nothing more marketed directly at fringe audiences, it's not that shocking to me). it's just the newer generation that I'm not too into, older stuff like Nekromantik (or the aforementioned Guinea Pig films) I like. I've heard that Aftermath/Genesis is great also, even though it's basically just a graphic autopsy, but supposedly it's made from an artistic standpoint and very well done. but when some of those films were made, there weren't too many movies that were just gross out scenes. now I think it's been done, and a lot of these low budget guys are just weirdos who want to cash in. I personally wouldn't hold stuff like MSP or AU in the same category as gory mainstream stuff like Hostel or the Hills Have Eyes remake. that's like saying a film a mainstream film with some steamy love scenes is the same as those 4+ hour porn complilation tapes that take out all the plot. if you're really interested, they are available from my good friends at http://www.diabolikdvd.com |

ALICE: please no sex talk or linking. even if it is horror sex. I don't need that shit around here, there is plenty of other places for sex on the net. |

Yeah, I understand you don't want porn here, and I concur. But Horror isn't about the sex to me. Sure, the two are inextricably linked. Just take Dracula. That's not why I watch these movies though. I enjoy the sensations of fear/suspense/being grossed out/whatever in the same way some people enjoy the white-knuckle rides in amusement parks. I don't get off on it. That film I posted about yesterday was just BAD. So bad I thought it was funny. I'm sorry if it was taken the wrong way. |

August underground and mordum are really not horror movies, more like fake snuff that's more realistic and disgusting than the Guinea Pig movies, I actually like some of those. I still haven't seen murder set pieces though. I haven't seen Aftermath, but I watched Genesis and it was extremely artsy, a little too artsy for me. If you like weird kind of artsy movies with strange gross sex and violence in them you should watch Singapore Sling, it's fucked up but in a strange almost beautiful way. |

MSP is for me trash ! Check Guinea Pig though very disturbing, also a little seen short by Jim Van Bebber called My Sweet Satan very brutal and disturbing, also agree on necromantik 1 &2 ,New York Ripper anyone? what about the dutch uncut version of ichi The Killer jesus that is fucked up, I like a bit of story with my spaltter stuff like Switchblade Romance, Hostel and Hills Have Eyes being best of recent flicks and for stuff that is creepy eepy but little blood go for Audition , Pulse (japanese) or Memories Of Murder (one of the greatest films of last few years IMHO), and you have prolly seen it but Street Trash is one of the greatest all time splatter fests of the 80's completely outrageous and stuffed full o gore ! hope that helps !!!! |

Yes, I think that was the point of these posts. I have no hang-ups about sex -- sex is a good thing. Violence, on the other hand, is unappealing to me. |

I love how you can't show a pair of breasts on TV but I can tune into any major network and see cadavers getting autopisied and people getting their brains blown out during prime time..God bless america! |

Hm, there are heaps of nasty films out there. A lot of them can't be considered horror really, more gorey than anything. Here's a list of movies I've seen which are pretty bad/good depending on your outlook Guinea Pig series: Bad stories, Great gore special effects. Rumour was these got their name because of Charlie Sheen seeing the first one and considered it to be a real Snuff film and turned it over to the FBI, heh. Cannibal classics such as Cannibal Ferox and Cannibal Holocaust, the main downer about those films is the real animal cruelty which resulted in both of those films being banned in most countries for a long time. Italian awesomeness: Opera, Tenebre.. basically check out Argento films. Spanish: I loved a film called Tesis ( Thesis ) which was a directorial debut by Amenabar who went on to make "The Others" with Nicole Kidman. Devil's Backbone which was mentioned in the old thread is also extremely creepy. J (Japanese ) Horror: Audition, The Ring, The Grudge, One Last Call, Visitor Q ( ok well not really horror but very f'd up ). Tetsuo, Versus. K (Korean) Horror: I haven't seen a lot but there's some decent stuff around but hard to recommend because the English titles are always different. I'll come back to that for you if you like Chinese: Men Behind the Horror.. very disturbing film. German: Necromantik already mentioned, that film is pretty gross but very silly. Lastly some american stuff: Last House on the Left, I Spit on your Grave, Driller Killer, original Texas ... Massacre film, remake of the Hills Have Eyes I thought was great fun. I'm sure people will add, there's a few English horror films which are definitely worthwhile but my brain is drained for the moment. |
