I know of a couple of people in Tokyo with minimal Japanese skills who get by just fine, but they have spouses or co-workers who can accommodate their disability. I dont know what your chances of survival outside of a big city like Tokyo could be, though.

I know Data speaks Japanese. I'm curious about the other RFSO members who live in Japan.

I've studied basic Japanese and am seriously considering taking it up again, with an eye on a possible future move to Tokyo.
