Grew up with British punk. Pretty unfamiliar with US stuff . . . . just curious which is THE Misfits album that best sums up what they're about.

Not overly thrash orientated! . . . any thought 'preciated. 8)

I would recommend Walk Among Us as a start.

early stuff (static age etc) is a lot more "rockabillyish" while the later (walk among us) is more "punkish". i guess it all depends on what you're interested in. do others agree?

LEGACY OF BRUTALITY is a nice collection of early 7inches that has a time-line feel to it.

just listen to all the Danzig stuff, but forget about the revival era

or make a cd or tape of the song All Hell Breaks Loose repeated over and over and listen to it non-stop

I don't think the Graves era is as bad as most like to make out, its certainly a different Misfits, good nonetheless though.

Walk Among Us is an excellent introduction. I would just throw down the cash and get the box set though. Has close to everything. I believe Walk Among Us is absent though.

Are you looking for a recommendation on which album to purchase or do you have a bunch already and are looking for a place to start? Either way, Walk Among Us is the best place to start.

it's the next thing to pop punk, and I actually like a lot of pop punk, but not when it's the misfits.

the quality of the song writing, in particular the lyrics, goes WAAAAAY downhill.

Danzig-era misfits use the facade of the b-movie ghouls to create a sort of sinister, almost ganglike aura. if you dig deep into the lyrics they're really quite nasty and cruel a lot, and the way they're performed made you believe that they meant it.

Graves-era and beyond Misfits use the facade of b-movie ghouls as a marketing tool. they're lyrics are corny representations of the films they're taken from. for instance, that Poltergeist song on the first album had a chorus that went "Carol Ann, Carol Ann...." <---- stupid

Kohler and Gabba agree with me. We win!

i agree. new misfits seemed more than anything like an attempt to cash in on nostalgia for a time when they had something interesting going on. i gave the revival or resurrection or whatever a good chance, and really wanted to like them, but really didnt.

I don't like new Misfits at all, and it's appropriate that the best stuff comes from THE Misfits.
I did see Misfits last year, and it was pretty fine indeed. They played mainly The Misfits material, so that made it for me.

when i was younger i used to be all about walk among us.

then when static age was officially released it became my favorite.

but now a days i'm appreciating the brilliance of Earth A.D. again.

to sum it up: my favorite band ever, i love it all (only pre-1995).
and i refuse to give any credit to any new material released under: the Misfits(TM)
