I spent my time (about an hour) at the roulette wheel. I spent my money there too (ALL of it)
I drove back to my friends house then

I've been twice - first time saw a lot of shows, did some gambling, lost some money, and got turned away from some of the nicer restaurants. 1st time was enough to last me a long time, so the second time which was a business trip, I pretty much just couldn't wait to get out of there.

Penn and Teller-never disappoint, hysterical live show
Blue Man Group
Whatever Cirque du Soleil production that is running (insane to see in person)

Whatever you do avoid the Elvis Museum and Liberace museum. Except if you get a kick out of odd experiences which I usually do, but these two stops weren't even worth that.

I used to have good friends there, and went maybe 20 or so times from 1998 to 2001 - LOVED it, even though I don't gamble (maybe spent about $100 on video Poker over the course of visits) - used to chow down on those buffets, especially some out of the way locals only places. I hear prices are a lot higher these days though.

Wonder if they still have the coaster on teh outside of teh Stratosphere? Kind of crap, but its very high up which is fun. The coaster at Sateline on the way form LA put em off coasters for life though. Talk a bout a bone shaking neck breaker...urrrgh.... i USED to like my coasters smooooooth.

One place to check out is the Red Rocks about 20 minutes outside Vegas. Really beautiful, great scenery. There is a cool mountain lodge I went to once as well...felt so far from Vegas. But if u r there froa short time, maybe teh Strip will do it.

We stay at the Hard Rock (which is a great mixture of pure cheesiness and plastic surgery), party at the pool, wake up in someone elses room, eat at Firefly, drink at Freakin Frog and do it all over again...

Lisa and I lived in Vegas for a couple of years (96-98). Lisa was a cigarette girl at the Flamingo and Cesars so I usually gambled there. Vegas has changed a lot in the last ten years (and even more the ten years before that) but he is what I recommend

Phillips Super Club: this is THE old mobster hangout, it has changed maangment since we moved but it is still a cool place to grab a steak and a little quite time.

Buffet at the Winn: Expensive but the best buffet in town by a long shot. They have all you can drink mimosa/beer/wine so drinkers always get there moneys worth here.

The Peppermill: On the strip neat the stratosphere. This is the best lounge in the city. Have at least one ice cream cocktail. This was our hangout when we lived in Vegas, it has the best Starsky and Hutch vibe in vegas.

Hotels: I suggest staying at a different hotel every visit, there are so many cool ones it is fun to try all of them out. A good start is the Hard Rock and the Palms, the Luxor is great if you want a jacuzzi suite. The Winn and Venetian are the nicest right now (IMO), if you have money to blow stay here. If your on a budget downtown is always an option.

The best gambling is downtown or in the suburbs, get out of the fancy hotels is you are a serious gambler. They don't pay for those desert palaces with hotel room revenues.

If you win big at any point in the weekend just leave the casino. The locals rule is if you double your bank at any point in the night walk away. If you walk in with $500 to lose and end up with $1000 you are way out on the lucky side of the bell curve. Go buy something or go home but stop gambling because you are a winner.

it will be a long time before i can stomach vegas again ... i played on a blackjack team for a while and was there for maybe 6 weeks in a 6 month period or so ... in general the biggest casinos have the best blackjack rules if that's your thing (mandalay, mgm, caesar's, wynn, bellagio, etc).

Wow, I seriously need to check all these places out. Maybe it's the fact that I'm under 21 so I can't "enjoy" the city as it's intended.

We decided to go to Japan instead of sdcc.

Probably a wise choice, marriage-wise.

I would pick Japan over SDCC any day, make sure to go to Kyoto.

Cool, I remember your Kyoto comment after your trip, looks like a good day.
