I got a Zune from work and was pretty excited about the whole deal. It got about 93% of the way synching up my music library and the application froze. Reboot, went to Chkdsk, froze. Reboot. Start in Last known good configuration. Tried to do System Retore. Reboot. Chkdsk. Ok, something seriously wrong here. Another System Restore. Blue Screen. Can't boot at all Safe Mode or not. blue screen, blue screen. cannot boot.

long story short, Hard Drive destroyed. Trying to get my pics off of the drive now.

Need to buy a new desktop.

not happy.

embarassing, actually. sad to say.... :(

Christ that sucks.

I've had problems with MS's Media Player screwing up my system. One time I was transferring photos from a SD card to the PC. Had Media Player open, but nothing was playing. Still, I think it did something screwy with the cache/system, since I LOST half the files I was trying to transfer. MS really stinks with media applications.

that SUCKS!!
i really feel for you. i would cry. lol

external harddrive is a great idea. i have a one - back everything up. so at least u don't lose stuff precious to you - music, photos, videos, etc. in case of disaster.

sending u good shopping vibes for your next comp ^^

i have a zune and i havent had any problems software-wise,
but my cousin has to reinstall the zune software every week
cos his decides it wont recognise the zune.
Plus the software just sucks to use anyway.

ive also had problems with it pausing when it goes to the next song,
and sometimes it just plain shuts off in the middle of playing.

i had an ipod before i got a zune, and i can say
the itunes software is far easier. Atleast as long as youre
like me and you DIDNT update to itunes 7 cos it has to go
through your entire music collection and screw it up.
Plus, I once plugged my ipod into my friends comp and
she had itunes 7 and after it spent 45 minutes scanning
my ipod for 'gapless playback' ability, it made my ipod buggy.
And songs skipped or wouldnt play at all. Plenty of time
wasted hard-resetting the ipod because of that.

Needless to say, both have problems. But if you can get an
ipod and find an installer for itunes 6, your golden.

So overall, do you guys think it's worth getting the ZUNE? My girlfriend wants one but reading this makes me feel kinda worried. So what advice will everyone who has one or know anything about it give me. Buy one for her or not. And she don't really want to get a ipod cause like me, she don't like to have what almost everyone in the world got. :?

Well the good news is that my buddy was able to repair my desktop completely. yay! No loss of data!

Hiro,

I LIKE about Zune: big screen, album art seems to appear automagically when synching with library on desktop. Sounds good, etc.

I DON'T LIKE: All the installation problems, hard disk crashing, etc. Lots of stuff about this on the web. I'm seriously afraid to hook this thing back up to my desktop. not kidding.

My advice would have your gf wait until the next iPod comes out with the big screen and then she will be cutting edge and have a great device with great software.

my 2 cents.
