I loved the Police's first two albums and a few songs after that but can't deal with the idea of seeing them at this point despite my respect for the two less-famous members. Some reunion tours "work," most notably The Pixies in recent memory, but more often than not the zeitgeist is gone and the band has no good new material. In the case of the Police I know this doesn't matter for fans of their later material. I trust it'll be a really great time for those who go. Good thing about this band is that they're all talented musicians, haven't ruined themselves, and don't need a ton of studio musicians to make them sound like themselves again ... like "The Who" or Pink Floyd. :twisted:

anyone else going to see em? I'm an old bastard grew up in the 80's and they were one of my fave bands at school and I never got to see em.......now I will and I can't wait !

Yeah, I am going to the June 30 show at the UNO Lakefront Arena. I liked the Police quite a bit. I'm hoping I get to hear "Invisible Sun", "Omegaman", "Secret Journey", "When the World Is Running Down, You Make the Best of What's Still Around", which are some of the darker Police numbers. My only I FART A LOT is that floor tickets were $200 and higher. Ouch! That stinks of money grubbing... My seats were $50 a pop

Is it going to be just them? Because that would be worth it to me. Otherwise, if they're going to have some motley band with lutes and digerydoos (sp) behind them, I'll pass.

They have an opening act out here, but I'd never heard of them, they're probably only on as a favor to someone. I never understand huge bands that take out some crappy band no one is going to like, probably to kiss someones ass. At least pick an awesome band. I saw the Sisters of Mercy once with some abysmal opening act no one had heard of (and that was for a reason), and you know some great bands would have killed to open for them back then. Anyway, the persistent rumor is that The Police is going to be playing Coachella. I hope it is true.

I stole this from Wikipedia: Stewart Copeland composed the musical score for Rumble Fish. A song released to radio on A& M Records "Don't Box Me In (theme From Rumble Fish)" - a collaboration between Copeland and singer/songwriter Stan Ridgway leader of the band Wall of Voodoo... For me, this is the kind of thing that help make the Police interesting. Granted, they have no new songs. But why is that important? Especially for a band that hasn't played in 20+ years... I saw original Black Sabbath (in 2000-01, I think) and it was enjoyable. Even my wife liked it and said so (and was expecting the opposite). That is the closest I'll get to the real thing, if that makes any sense. I'm rationalizing, so I'll stop now.

You're quite right though ... it's not such a big deal if the show is good. For example I saw the Roxy Music reunion tour in 2000 when they intentionally focussed on material from their early career and ignored the weaker later songs ... it was amazing! Please don't let my comments make you feel that you need to justify your enthusiasm. I'm sorry if I rained on a parade ... just offering a different perspective. BTW I still love Copeland's Rumble Fish soundtrack. It was perfect for the film and is a great listen separate from it. I also liked the albums that Summers did with Robert Fripp very much.

"Don't Box Me In" is one of those singularly weird tunes that's really stayed with me over the years- great song. Ridgway's voice is great on it, and you gotta love that haunting little harmonica hook.

I saw one of the openers are no hopers Fiction Plane, which I think contains one son of Sting... altho I'm sure that didn't help them get the gig

i would really like to see them here, but they're playing at fenway park which is the WORST music venue (in my opinion..) acoustics are no good, the views are terrible, and i couldn't justify spending huge money on it. we were thinking of just going and hanging around outside and listening for free though...hehe

i just saw the rehearsal webcam on the fan club web site and, yes it is just the three of them with keybords etc triggered by the drums and guitar. I am so excited i cant wait. the support band is Stings son ! so i'll be missing them cause they suck! As long as they play can't stand losing you i'll be a happy man.

I do wish the tickets I bought to see them in MSG weren't 560 a ticket (retail not scalped) but I can finally say I got to see the Police play. Now if I could only find a way to get Joe Strummer back to life and see the Clash.
