Post subject:  The big question has come

Over the time I have been painting figures I have decided that in the short future its time to look into creating my own figure. I have a strong passion for painting these toys we love and think its time for me to stop painting other lines and focus one getting my own if I want to continue. I understand all the views that have been expressed about me painting others lines but I don't want to stop painting as I truly love it.

Sketches have been in the works and I think its time for me to start shopping around for a distributor. I have spoken to a few artist here and there who have there own toy made and it seems its plausible that I can do this.

I'm curious to know if anyone would be interested in a LASH line of toys ?

I would love to post initial drawings to hear others thoughs on what they think of my design.

This isn't something that would happen over night. But if allowed I would love to document the process and progress of this endeavor.

I respect all the members here and would love to hear the feedback of what you guys think about me creating my line of toys.

So what do you guys think about me creating a figure ??

More toys are always a good thing. Plus your paint jobs rock! I say go for it.

An honest critique would be appreciated. But I would like it to be for real not just for fun or breaking balls. This is serious for me.

I cant post pics tonight of sketches but next week possibly.

If it's something you want to do, then do it. It would definitely be fun! I've been wanting to start sculpting again, and possibly making resin casts just for fun - much lower budget than what you're proposing. But it's just all about having fun and doing what you want. You can't let other people tell you not to do something you truly want to do.
The one thing I would caution against is going into this with the idea of making money (however small), or breaking even. If you're still down to do it under the possibility/assumption that you'll lose money, then it's a win/win situation.
Good luck and have fun!

I thought about that and as long as I break even I would be happy. Just to be able to paint my own stuff would be rewarding.

Like I said this would be along process and most likely wouldn't happen for awhile. But to get the ball rolling I thought about resin casts.

Living in New Haven there are a lot of local artist and I was thinking of finding me a sculptor to get rolling.

rich,

yeah, let's check out the sketches and protos. Just be forewarned that not everyone will totally dig it and if they voice their opinion, try not to take it personally....

It's going to be an uphill battle but if you really have a passion for this, and (as NT said) if you can embrace complete failure, then go for it. I've done a lot of research and if there's one core lesson I've learned it's this: you need guts and money, and you really just need the guts to let go of the money.

Good luck.

lash if this is your dream then u should certainly follow it.

but if you really want to do this, then u have a TON of bigger things to worry about than whether or not SB board members like some sketches!

and yes, you will have to be prepared for very sharp criticism if people don't like it.

i wish you luck, but the real prize here would be creating a line of work you are proud of, not pleasing a bunch of notoriously picky board members

^^

Many of toy collectors have this dream. Oddly a couple of freinds and I are on that same path. The hard part is to create something unique. I have learned the hard part is to be my own toughest critic, having to expain and rationalize every bump, horn and nook!

Its a fun path though, not of fame, not of fortune, but fun from what I have been doing. Not sure I am at the level of sharing it though.

Seriously though, I am rooting for ya. I know a good number of us would love to see what you are working on.

Good luck, hope you enjoy the 'sculpty'

It would be cool to see a fight fig version of the face you put on your headers.

+1, yes, that would be cool. Horns and skulls always make for cool toys!

Rich, go for it. If you can find a sculptor willing to make a model for you, you can make an RTV silicone mold yourself and start casting away. I've done tons of molds/castings and would be willing to help you out. Like I said..Go for it.

Do it. I'd be interested in a LASH line of figures. Your paint jobs are solid.

Yeah - I'd say start off with resin casts before launching your money into rotocasting. That way you get your feet wet without too much coin leaving your pocket.
Plus, I think it'd be way more fun to do the casting yourself, even if the result is a little more rough.

;)

The sketchs of the fig are based on the sticker that I give away.

I don't want to get to far ahead but when I post pics you guys will see what I mean.
