I'm going to Vegas for the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) conference at the end of the week. I've never been. Anything there that I have to see? Any cool toyshops? I guess there will be a lot of lights, Elvis impersonators, and hookers, but I'm looking for something more.
The conference will keep me busy, I just don’t want to find out about something amazing after I leave.

Thanks

when i was there in january i saw a brief display of the Fashionistas stage show. I want to go back to vegas just to check out the entire show.

here's a link to the site:
http://www.fashionistastheshow.com/

warning though: it's definitely an adults only gig. it's based on an adult production that won a ton of avn awards. at the same time though it has been receiving tons of rave reviews.

You're pretty much SOL in regards to Toy shops
When/where is the conference?
I will try to help you plan some stuff out if you'd like

There are no toy shops here in Vegas. Just come out here to enjoy the sights and hope you don't lose money gambling. But I'd recommend checking out the Bodies Exhibit at the Tropicana Hotel:

The conference starts this weekend and goes all week I think. I'll be there from Mon - Thurs.
That bodies one is by that German guy right? I was going to drive down to see it in Minneapolis when it was there... Thanks for the info.

My wife forced me to go see Siegfried and Roy the last time we went to Vegas... it wasn't as bad as I had feared, but we were pretty close to the stage, and we would've had a great view of the mauling... shame we went on the wrong night. Sigh...

i'm not afraid to say it... i love the blue man group!
i was unhappily forced to go see them with some friends but walked out with a huge smile on my face and a new respect for them :D

i'm going to one of the bodies exhibits soon in NY - its more scientifically centered, focusing on the various systems of the body, but is the same plastification process.

anyway, blah blah blah. have fun ^^

I'm going to Danny Gans tonight, even though I detest him for no reason
Everyone I ask about it says it was good, and the tix were free, so why not...

Danny Gans puts on a pretty entertaining show actually...especially when the show is free! :D

Check out the Atomic Testing Museum on Flamingo - they have "little boy" and "fat man" key chains, among other things, in the gift shop.

If you can work it out, take a tour of the Nevada Test Site - it's the place where the government built those fake towns just to see what would happen in the event of an atomic explosion. What's left of those buildings is still there plus lots of other amazing and very creepy stuff. The tour will also take you to Yucca Flats which is where a lot of bombs were exploded and also served as the inspiration for the 50's monster movie - "The Beast of Yucca Flats."

The Liberace Museum is worth a hoot too. And the coolest diner/lounge in town - the Peppermill - is a must if you want to see a relic from LV's cheesy past - check out the lounge with flamepit ("it's a bubbling pool of water but it's also on fire!") and order some parasol drinks from chicks in cocktail dresses who sit down next to you to take your order.

And if you want to be thoroughly depressed - check out the really low rent casinos on Fremont Street like the El Cortez.

Also, there's a cool design center and a cluster of cool, very small art galleries (I got a very cool oil on linen painting of a Glock last time I was there) on Charleston Blvd - west of the strip.

Speaking of Glocks, there's a gun range right next to a daycare called the Gunstore where you can shoot fully auto guns and they don't really care if you're drunk!

no wonder you think vegas sucks

go to the buffet at the Winn it is pricey but the thick ass slab bacon is worth it.

the peppermill is fun for drinks

I think Mmodern just opened a new gallery in vegas.

the rest of my ideas would force a grumpy email or phone call from Issac

I think Aladdin Hotel has a great buffet. At least the last time I was out there (2002) I enjoyed it. (free mimosas)

I belive its called the spice market, look for the never ending line.

whoa - its actually named 'best of las vegas 2007'. http://www.aladdincasino.com/index.html
click on dining, then spice market.

You'd better hurry back then... If the Aladdin hasn't already changed hands, it's going to be changing to a Planet Hollywood Hotel sooner or later.

It's already in the process of being Planet Hollywood. I saw them putting up the sign on the building.

yes. It says 'future home of planet hollywood' allover the website.

I plan to make it out this summer, my friend works as store manager at MGM Grand. He claims to have the hook up, I just might take him up on that.

Wow! How have I ever missed that! Ok, next time I'm in LV - I'm going to the Peppermill to get a Flintstone-size plate 'o food, then drink my ass off in the lounge before heading over to the gun range to blow through a few thousand rounds with a machine gun.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas - unless, of course, you go on a drunken shooting spree at a nearby day care center with full auto weaponry.

That ain't gonna stay in Vegas.
