Wow, another situation where the big-whig fat-cats get what they need, and edge out the artist. But...maybe we should not speak too soon, perhaps one of the sale tags gives Mike the Le Merde credit. (It would have to, in some way, as all of his images are under private copyright.)

i'm such a freakin' fanboy - ran out to my local pacsun today and picked one up. jacket is awesome - and the placement of the images were different on every jacket, so probably no two alike. congrats, mike!

it does totally suck that there's no mention of le merde anywhere on the jacket, though. not even on the tags. that's completely lame of nike to not give recognition. wtf?

you have to remember that there's tons of artists that work for Nike that contribute to the brand in whole. Some artists get mentioned and some do not. That's the same unfortunate stuff that happens everywhere. I really do wish they would've given Mike some proper recognition but hey, it's a major stepping stone that can eventually lead to major recognition with possible future projects. Viva Le Merde!

Call me an optimist or a nike lover(call me both actually) but I look at this as the other way around. All for friends using nike as platform to make their name bigger.

You are quite right, Lamour. I was recently telling one of the other artists in the Grass Hut collective that, while the big-whig fat-cats can seemingly do-what-they-want, it is typically because the given artist has no legal representation (for a variety of reasons). The result is something important--like even the credit of a copyright through a limited licensing for image reproduction--is completely short-sold.

Coming from a magazine design background, guess i was just expecting a small "Cloud Man illustration by Le Merde" somewhere -- it was a strict rule for us to credit all freelance artists' work. And I'm thinking of examples like Nike's recent collab with Tado in the UK or RVCA's Artist Network Program line where artist gets mention -- which are cool because they expose artists' work to a new audience. In any case, this jacket is awesome and great for both Nike + Le Merde. Here's to many more LM projects...

Wow! Thanks everyone. Yes I'm so stoked on the jacket. It came out really nice. The fit is perfect. It's the classic NIKE windbreaker cut. It's totally cool that it doesn't say NIKE X Le Merde on it. I guess you could look at it as an illustration job. Working with them was awesome all the way.

The jacket is in stores and online. Great price I must say.

They give credit on bigger projects when it is more of a collab situation.

Also I get to skate their private indoor skatepark all the time! :)
