Wow - I'm usually not too much into clears with fillings, but these are captivating and very beautiful! |

I think those clay figures are really interesting, just kind of throwing chunks of clay together to build the form, looks like a somewhat early stage of the sculpt, but then adding the paint and the jewels to it, looks really cool, I want one. |

interesting ...but sculpt still looks rough like not done yet to me too. on first sight me missing interpretation of "artist", its like a lot of different styles and parts of known monsters put together without much input or change... |

I really like the way they inserted jewels for the eyes... |

Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like they went for a matte finish on the vinyl, as opposed to gloss. That's a little strange, because usually gloss works best for clear, but from those pictures it looks like it gives it a neat waxy look. Pretty cool! |

they look pretty cool, definately can tell they are western. saying that, the last one (painted/jewel eye) looks terrible. |

I found out Zakka has a new Manhattan location, and still had a few of the original figures from the flyer in the first post, the name of the figure escapes me at the moment. I went to check it out today, I was actually going to pick one up. In person, very cool sculpt and amazing paint aps. But the vinyl was...not great. It didn't even seem like Chinese vinyl, it was thin and light and there were lots of air bubbles. No markings on the foot like Made in China, Just some Japanese characters. I probably would have picked it up, even with the cheap vinyl, but some of the airbubbles were on the surface of the figure, and it had a non-vinyl smell to it, I thought maybe it was from the dye. I'd heard before Zakka had some connections to bootleg vinyl makers in Chinatown, so I almost wondered if the vinyls were produced here in NYC... Anyway, I saw a GID blank proto of the new Blobpus collab and it was sweet. There's going to be a show there in Oct with the new figure. Maybe it will hit during NYCC and visitors can lump it into their trip. But I'm glad to see Guumon working with Japanese vinyl. His work is fantastic, it deserves to be made from the best vinyl. I hope he recasts his original figure in J-vinyl as well. |
