Last Saturday, Yukinori Dehara and David Horvath descended upon Giant Robot in the East Village for Deharavath 2 Otaku
I was finally able to meet Yukinori Dehara who is very humble and cool in person. For this show, his artwork focused on Otakus.

Otaku (おたく/オタク?) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, and video games.

Probably the first time that Dehara has been to NYC or the east coast.

Cool theme, and the Dehara clays are awesome. Notice how almost all the girl ones sold out but there are still a bunch of dude ones left over?

I couldn't pass this one up. It perfectly embodies the "mouth-breathing doll collector" my wife ostensibly sees me as.

I've always been a fan of Dehara, and it was really great/fun to see his works in person...and to meet Him! I love the way they are displayed too.

Those Dehara postcards are pretty awesome. Don't know which one to buy..

Considering this one:

I sorta wish the Sun Min Kim paintings were priced lower. $400 is quite a lot for a 4''x4'' painting.

Thinking about that one too. Both Endo (photographer) figures are still for sale. If there was a Satoshi still for sale, I'd buy the figures with the matching postcard.

I believe this is a large poster print.
There were smaller photo postcards but I don't believe those made it to the web.

Yeah those pictures are of the 12''x16'' posters. You're talking about the ones on a short table that had the Menta handpaints?

Post subject:  Re: NYC: Deharavath 2 Otaku

Yes, there were probably 12-15 different photo postcards on a short table. Hand numbered editions of 10 each. I went a little nuts and picked up the number 1s of about 10 of the postcards. And then went for 3-4 of the larger format prints.

I still have some of the larger format prints from his 2006 show at GRSF. Back then, I passed on the clays as I told myself to focus only on vinyl. What a stupid mistake. Keeps haunting me.

Thats pretty cool that you got all the 1s. How much were those postcards?

I'd be kicking myself if I told myself to do vinyl only. The clays are worth every dollar. You pick up any clays from Deharavath 2?

The postcards were $5 each and really crazy.
I ended up with eight or nine of the clays.

Nice. Maybe your the person my friend told me about. She said someone was buying up a whole bunch of Dehara stuff. She was there buying stuff for me as well, but over on the Horvath/Kim wall.

8 or 9 clays though.. that's over 1k easily. You pick up the two Lonely Otaku clays?

That was me.

There were a bunch of Ugly people buying up the Horvath/Kim stuff, and a girl on a cell buying for someone out of town. But no one was really lining up for the clays.

First GR was saying that I could buy ten pieces, then they changed their policy to only two pieces per day. Jimmy, the store manager, is really cool and I could understand his point of view about giving others a chance at them. Fortunately I was watching for them to be released to the webstore and was able to get some others.

David Horvath picked up the two Lonely Otaku clays while I was there.

Post subject:  Re: NYC: Deharavath 2 Otaku

The girl on the phone was there for me. She bought me five or six Menta IceBats, the hidden Super Puncher, and half the Lonely Otaku story. I think I went a little overboard with this show, but I'm sure I'll love it all once GRNY mails out the art next month.

I guess the Ugly people lucked out with those two Ugly plush things available.

Question; does Dehara speak English?
