Horrible.
Who would want something that brings misfortune?

I guess it's trying to be ironic, but it just comes off as being in poor taste. Whoever made this should be hit over the head with a large, ceramic Maneki Neko. Now that would be irony.

[Edited for sounding overly nutty.]

I'm reminded of the line that says... "Don't be surprised when you call your dog Killer if he turns out to be one."
I think I'll pass on the misfortune cat.

The sculpt actually looks pretty well done (compared to the illustration) but it is way too platform toy and the 3 eyes and sword seem so forced and are a real turn off. Plus who needs bad magic in their lives?

Ferg or Van Beater from Jamungo did the illustration of this suicidal kitty...!!! ! can't remember which one though...?

I love all the Jamungo Nades & Buds... one of my western vices along with UNKL HazMapo's

never cared for any of the RxH cats so this really does nothing for me either...

Trying to be ironic...or sarcastic??

Can anyone translate that kanji up front if its even legit?

Triclops cat, with a knife piercing thru her head definitely leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

it was FERG. i am definitely a fan of vanbeater, but the sword through the head kinda feels like an insult to me, i dunno something just not working.

I have some bear repellent I would like to sell you.

I'm gonna stand on the side of insult, it's quite offensive actually.

And I see no reason to tempt fate.

I'm confused too. What's so offensive/insulting about it? Not something I'd buy but I actually thought it was kind of a cool design.

Even though I never really cared much for the RxH Cats I've always had the impression that they sold quite well. When I saw this I somehow had the feeling the Misfortune Cat wanted to cash in on the hype as well. I dunno though. It might just be the artistic ether that made them come up with this...

I would thinking writing off the rxh cats as a reason to do this as a dream. I've seen random things for the lucky cats forever from all sorts of areas, I don't really like this, but don't see why to hate it more than a lot of other things. That damn KR custom up there though, ugh.

I don't think it's that bad. i really like the skullbuds, but this is'nt even close to them.
It seems to be giving people the heeby jeeby's on here though, like a western curse on the kaiju forum.

Your probably not interested, but the other lucky cat(KR) is'nt a custom, it's a prodution piece by Mr Shane Jessup.

Even worse then, KR quality control sucked from the start and I've been unfortunate enough to see some friends newer [expletive deleted] that make me realize even if I liked the whole platform toy now I wouldn't be able to purchase them. Makes the worst qc from sb seem like 5 stars.

I know, KR have terrible QC, but that cat is one of the few pieces i think works, plus the QC is pretty good on that particular figure.
That's what i've never understood, Toy2r have amazing QC, i mean, they're head and shoulders above KR, but they just never took off like the whole [expletive deleted] thing.........it's a shame.

I don't like it, but I think it would be a lot better without the sword. I think the [expletive deleted] (or munny or whatever) is better, but neither are my thing.

Let me answer this question. Maneki Neko are still part of 'real' Japanese culture; new businesses will buy these to bring money, customers, etc. through their door. It's hard to explain since there is no similar item in western culture (that I can think of).

Growing up surrounded by these things, I feel it is a western artist trying to turn a quick buck by making something morbid out of a symbol of luck and happiness in the original cultural context. Admittedly, it's not intrinsically worse than anything else out there. So maybe it is mostly my personal feelings, but I think this is lame.

this thing even has a pearl finish.

as for the misfortune cat....yeah...if someone gave me that, i would turn it down right away. more because the person is handing me bad luck...bad enough that person had to buy bad luck.

maybe the cat absorbs bad mojo, instead of warding it away. just a thought.

Post subject:  Re: misfortune cat

i doubt it. in some Asian traditions, you will see pairs like Agyo & Ungyo or the Shisa dogs. The pairs have one with an open mouth (let out evil spirits) and one with a closed mouth (keep in good spirits). Also...depending on which paw is raised, one is for wealth and the other is for happiness. Call it just a toy, I still wouldn't want that in my apartment. Besides, why would you want something that keeps the bad mojo in?
