It would actually suck if this were true. Despite the occasional lazy toy, OF produces some great clothing and lifestyle items.

Sometimes I wonder if the Kaws hate is just as much of a bandwagon and some of the things highly praised on this board.

the hate is so funny to me.. It's usually done by people who don't do anything themselves..

I have no confirmation but can see this being the case.

Having being fortunate enough to visit the store last year I can say it was awesome retail environment and the staff were super friendly but there was nothing I could justify paying the crazy ¥ for . . . and I don't think that was just down to my frugal Yorkshire nature!

Also, why bother paying Tokyo rent when consumers will pay $180 for a $30 toy all day long online! :?

So true. This is why I'd never day anything bad against Celinne Dion. Or Kim Kardashian. Or Danielle Steel.

Andy, I think those flagships are more of a symbol than anything. Tourists make it a point to go visit those stores. Gives fans some something concrete to see other than a website. I doubt they're closing OF because it's not profitable...

The bobafett coming out is great.

If this store closes it could be an indication that the parent company is doing badly also, medicom.
So we wouldn't want that.

Maybe it's just a advertisement for the next edgy new KAWS toy, a headstone "toy". ;)

I agree with Andy. The overhead costs probably no longer justify a brick and mortar retail space ( like we haven't seen this before). If everything the brand released was exclusive to that location, it may have been justified, but again, I doubt that. Especially with no relationship financially to the secondary market.

As for the XX collaborations, my guess is that most of those releases aren't sought out by KAWS himself, but the brands coming to him or a little perk through the existing Medicom relations. If KAWS had that kind of pull, I would like to assume he'd choose better brand platforms to "XX" out the eyes on. Maybe I'm wrong. I have no knowledge of the inner-workings of the KAWS empire.

I also agree with Lurker that the pending Bobafett is pretty bad ass and I for one will be trying to acquire that figure.

Besides, if it does close its doors, is anyone here going to shed a tear... doubt it.

It's likely that kaws just isn't into doing OF any longer. I imagine the prices on his originals have sky rocketed since thanksgiving and he simply doesn't need to continue. The designs for the last few seasons have been pretty lazy and uninspired as well just reworking old graphics in that scibbly pencil style that I am not a fan of. He's probably just gonna focus on fine art more but I'm sure he will always release the occasional toy. Hold on to all of your old OF stuff though if it does go out of business bc I'm sure it will be valuable to collectors someday just like Seditonaries and things like that.

Looks more like an ad for their Spring/Summer 2013 line than a official closing notice to me. Probably just a gimmick used for a shirt design?
