Yeah, why do you bring sketch books to a toy release? I can understand if it's an artist toy release, but for a company toy release? Or is it just for yourself to pass the time? btw, my ID FG came and it's swwweeeetttt!! |

You should see toybotstudios on release Saturdays. Dang man, conté crayon, charcoal sticks. gum eraser and a big ole sketch pad in one hand, fancy vintage Hasselblad camera in the other. Sketch sketch sketch ... click, wind, click, wind ... sketch draw sketch ... man it's manic, but the blue tones are awesome in both media. And this guy shibby, hah! Mad skills with pantone quick-sketch markers. Dude can take one look at a new release sitting next to The Bunny at the S7 front counter, and ZING! That little vinyl sucker has twenty new colorways mapped out in ten minutes. Pogue and LOKASH bring freshly-loaded hand-held palettes of oil paints and "sketch" these Thomas Kinkade-like portraits of new releases. It's amazing. 11am: blank canvas. 12noon: Watch out, Ontiveros. Pogue may or may not wear a beret when painting, but if he did or did not, I would not be at liberty to divulge. LOKASH has this way of making the figures' eyes or as the case may be eye follow you from the painting, no matter where you're looking at it from. Cool trick but he learned it from Lamour I think. rhinomilk does kaiju porn sketches. You'd be surprised at how arousing a well-sketched tentacle can be. Actually, no you wouldn't, you toy-collecting weirdo. mangakaben refuses to sketch. Something about existing "before and after art." Way over my head man. Me, I do rubbings. Wrap the toy in vellum and rub some pencil lead all over it. I got a pencil lead stuck in the S7 Chicken Fever but I just tell people it was a one-off. Watch out Mandarake Stomp, for [the day after] tomorrow you will be art! |

damn, the way xoco explained it, shit, I'm all hot and hroney to sketch and paint now. I usually bring my sketch book with me and sketch to pass the time at releases if I don't know anyone during a long wait. But it usually ends up that I see someone I know and we just bs till they start the release. Is there a thread of toy release sketchings, or maybe start a new one. Anyone? I'd like to see some art. |

Heh, well obviously I was playin' yesterday afternoon, but in all seriousness, it's always cool to see people doing sketches around town. I haven't seen it at Super7 but I can see why an artist would be inspired there! |

sketchbook goes with me any time I leave the house in the day time (evening usually means going to a bar, club, or some restaurant). it's been a habit since 1984. you just never know when you get that urge... |
