he lingered around me in line at comic con and begged me to buy him a pushead handpaint there. He offered me $700 to buy it (on top of the cost of the toy i believe) I told him to buzz off and get in line behind the people who had been waiting patiently.

Often auctions have a few bidders who place a similar value on an object and who are all pretty close in bidding. Sometimes an auction gets two individuals (and it does take two) who bid it up from there-as in the case of the $2K HSP. That's why I consider the third highest bid, or the price where the bulk of bidders are, to be the truest value of an item in most cases. Most items will sell for about that amount eventually.
