I see a lot more posts lately from people that simply say PM'd...I don't know how you all have your board set up, but I get an email when anyone messages me, and you can set your topic to notify you when anyone replies, so this is essentially the equivalent of a thread bump, which is pretty much always frowned on, or so I thought...

If you just fell that you have to make a note that you've messaged someone in a sales thread, at least have the courtesy to mention what it was that you were after so that those of us that come in after you can take that into consideration when "shopping".

I may just be grumpy this morning, but I really see no point in posting the fact that you have sent someone a PRIVATE MESSAGE---if someone can explain to me how this is not just thread bumping, feel free to enlighten me.

Nah, you're right, it redundant and stupid.

Absolutely agree. Also agree with your second paragraph - if people do insist on stating that they PM'd someone regarding a sale then let everyone know what you PM'd about so that other people don't waste their time, and so the seller doesn't get inundated with PMs for the same figure.

People do it to call first dibs, and perhaps as ---NT--- said to avoid seller inundation and to ensure that the seller knows they have a buyer. I doubt if it's merely to bump someone else's thread to the top of the forum. It's to bump themselves to the top of the dibs list. :-)

I see that, but if you don't call dibs on something, is it truly calling dibs? Kinda like calling "shotgun" before anyone else is riding along...

oh yeah...bump for post count!

My biggest pet peeve right now is board member's backing out of deals. This is happening to me more & more. It's starting to feel like Kidrobot. If you are unsure or don't have the cash let it go.

Not really because it's all up to the seller. :-) I guess you could call it "hopeful claiming."

I can understand if some emergency comes up and you suddenly don't have the money you thought you did, but it is totally chickenshit to tell some one you are going to buy something, thereby preventing it from being sold to anyone else, and then backing out when it comes time to pay the piper. I suspect that this is a side effect of the influx of new blood here, some of which are probably not mature enough to realize the errors of their ways.

I've seen a few sales lately that sell whatever to the first to paypal the funds, which certainly eliminates any doubt in that area...and I don't think that they hit you with a percentage on refunds---but it does say something about the "un-tightening" of the community here...

I'm in this situation right now...but not due to lack of funds. It sucks but at I'm glad that the buyer is very understanding of my situation. I've always asked the buyer, if I'm a little short on cash, if they are willing to hold an item for me. Some post that they do not hold items on their threads, some reply to my pm saying that they can't cause they need the money, and some are willing. There have been times where the buyer says they can't hold the item and then the item stays up for weeks, often dropping in price. At that point, I don't bother to pm about it.

The "pm'd" craze is just simply annoying, especially when it isn't stated what the buyer has "pm'd" about. The seller knows who contacted him/her first by private message.

And because I'm extra fucking grumpy today, it seems like there have been a lot more mindless posts by members that have to comment on every single goddamned topic.

And jacking up post counts is so lame it makes me want to throw poop at people.

Alright, that's better. Sorry guys, too much time between hockey games this week.

Are you more grumpy cause the Pens are facing the Wings and have a feeling that there is a good chance that the Wings will slaughter the Pens (I hope not. I'm wishing for a great series...but I really don't care who wins the Cup this year)?
I hate when people post "pm'd" or "pm'd for..." I don't need to know if you've pm'd the seller. So what if you have. "pm'd for..." wow, so now you have to let everyone know that you have the money to buy that toy. Big freakin deal. I've talked about this with other board members over lunch or whatever and I truely don't care for it. Whether it is on this board or that other board. Maybe next time someone should post when they're taking lunch or going to take a pee...it just about the same thing.
:D

Yeah, the pm'd phenomenon is just as annoying as "If I had extra cash I'd grab that in a heartbeat", or "too bad it wasn't such 'n such color. I need that one instead". It all seems like pointless noise.

There's a fine line between posting and simply enjoying a thread.

Hey Gatchabert, I'm grumpy because I get bitchy every so often. Been reading way too much Stanley Cup Finals hype this week and am really looking forward to tomorrow's game. This city has been partying every few nights for the past 2 months and it's been a blast.

I took the kids to the park this afternoon, so the grump is gone.
I still agree with scottygee and appreciate you guys permitting me to vent about all the noise and pointless bullshit (like some of my posts, ironically).

F*ck yeah, Lurker! Go Pens!

Post subject:  Re: PM'd

I agree with the million and one unnecessary posts here with one word answers just to seemingly up the post count, but I don't think "PM sent with the exact toy you sent PM for" is THAT bad. At least it might help the seller not get 80 pm's about the same toy, but then again with the super flakiness that seems to happen often maybe it is pointless. Maybe you have to resort to the 3rd or 4th PM to get the actual buyer with cash. While we're on the subject anyone sending a paypal echeck should be shot without trial

Go Redwings!
