Post subject:  Skullbrain RSS feeds?

Hi -

I did a search to see whether or not there was a RSS feed for the board and didn't see anything.

Are people interested? http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?cat=56 There's quite a few options available. I added one to my site and the members seem to really enjoy it since you can read through the topics quickly, plus get notices about topics (depending on your RSS reader).

My brilliant Girlfriend recently turned me on to the wonders of RSS.

Let me TRY and explain.

RSS- Real Simple syndication

If you have a homepage like Netvibes
http://www.netvibes.com/

You copy the RSS code and add it to your homepage, basically to have everything on one page so you can see what's updated without so much jumping around.

Skullbrain .org has the rss code available to it. But I don't know if there is Rss for this particular forum software? I think that kubrickworld is saying that there is?

I have all the toy-blogs (Blobpus, exohead, ect), thumbnails posted by my flickr friends, and my e mail on one page.

It's a very nifty tool!

Makes being online really boring!

Not to whore my own site (but I am :D )

http://www.kubrickworld.com/forum/rss.php

Here's a sample of my RSS feed from the Kubrick World Forum. What a reader will do is convert that into headlines, text and photos (if posted). An excellent way of keeping up-to-date on what's going on with sites you visit!

The RSS reader I use is Gush (http://www.2entwine.com/) -- which is not only an RSS reader, but you can also use it as a multi-messenger service! And it blows stuff like Trillian out of the water...plus it's free.

Hey KW, why when I follow your link do I get what looks like raw XML showing up?

Author:  kubrickworld [ Tue Feb 07, 2006 4:38 am ]

That's because it is :D

RSS feeds are straight XML until a reader parses it into a readable format. Which is why I suggested Gush as a reader -- however there are many, many options available and even some browser plugins. I've beta tested the new 7.0 version of IE and it has a built in RSS reader...handy!

Works like a charm!

Ironically, I wanted to use the RSS to keep up on when people post "for sale" stuff...and even then I can't keep up with how fast others check the boards :D

Post subject:  a different RSS Service via your email

http://www.squeet.com/

For those who don't want to use an RSS reader, check out this nifty service.

You enter in your email address and then anytime there's an update to an RSS feed (i.e. someone posts and the system parses it out) then you'll get an email with the info!

MWNO33 -- Ramos had installed a module to the board. Whenever anyone posts / replies then the database sorta holds onto all of the posts, then spits out an XML feed. A reader then takes that feed and puts it into a readable version -- Subject and message along with thumbnailed images.

What this does is allow you to quickly read all of the posts here on Skullbrain without having to take time to go to the site. For me, I check out the updates about every 15 minutes through Gush at work, which lets me stay on top of everything that people are posting! I've found, though, that this have been killer on my bank account...
