So good, we need to see this on this page! @djkemp if you don't mind my asking, are the glass doors custom cut, or can you find them in a hardware store? Can you tell us what lights you're using? Beautiful display! Love the Arks and Orange
Thanks everyone for your kind words. @old_seaweed @Mr. Humphreys The glass doors are custom cut and have little handles grooved in, the lights are kitchen cabinet lights, Parlat LED Under Cabinet Lights to be precise. I got fed up with trying differing quality USB strip lighting and really wanted the lighting to be bright and clean. Obviously not the cheapest option but worth it i think.
@djkemp Really love this setup. Very classy looking. Would look great with some giant-size right there on top
The custom cabinet looks great. Clean and it does become an issue for me when things are too close to the floor. Hard to view… I’ve filled all my cases but am now looking for a similar option where I can modify an existing piece of furniture. I cant build anything but there is an abundance of lighting options and getting glass or plexi cut to size is pretty easy if there is a place near you.
@djkemp , thank you for answering the questions! Please take photo updates as you add more toys. It's a unique setup!
Any recs for a really solid glass/acrylic display cases, for smaller pieces? I'm trying to display a single special piece with its packaging, don't want to take chances with dust and light for once, and would prefer to avoid the distorting effect of domes and cloches. If there's any time to pay too much for UV-resistant glass, super mega spaceship dust seals, whatever else, it's now.
nothing personally I’ve used, but I’ve been searching for custom 5-sided acrylic display cases, and in my search I’ve found that so many places do custom ones. Do a quick Amazon search and I’m sure you can find what you’re looking for at an affordable price. Some have jointed connections, that you can build yourself, but some come in one piece, with or without a base.
A new home office space provided the opportunity to remove a wall of open, sagging, shelves, chase some cables in for LED lighting, redecorate and replace it with a large enclosed cabinet: Old shelves - Lemon & VendorBot for scale All done Let the Soft Vinyl all night rave begin; populated photo to follow!
I Don't think i've shared this on here. When I moved in 2020 I decided to ditch the Detolfs for 3 of the Roxy Display 6' x 8' display cabinets. Still in progress... want to get lighting more under control still... but it's fun.
Can I get more info / pics on how you did the lighting? I've got some built-ins in my basement that are similar, and I'd love to get them lit up.
I’ve now done it twice, once in your situation and now from scratch; starting from scratch was easier because I could plan the lighting and could hide the wiring. The above has gaps on either side of the unit, so the LED wiring runs up beside the wall and the unit, which meant wiring was easy. Each shelf has an LED ribbon cable, which runs across the horizontal shelves and exits on out the side of the unit (so there are small holes drilled between shelves). The LED ribbon is set into under counter LED trunking, which then hides the small holes between the shelves. I’ve gone with angled trunking, so it is hidden by the shelf fronts, which are made slightly larger than the shelves themselves to hide the LEDs. This is what the trunking looks like: https://www.pennelcomonline.com/en/...75c710000&_sgm_source=10702&_sgm_action=click Drivers for the LEDs sit on the top of the unit. Once everything was wired up, the front facias of the cabinets were added and the wiring was hidden. In terms of the previous project, which was already in situ , I did a similar thing but couldn’t hide the wires, so just ran some low profile trunking up the inside corner of the units and drilled through the top of the unit to get the wiring to the LED strips. In that case, I used flat trunking, which looked like this: https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk...1kIl1WDmpsGmTPMAFXhoChYQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Here are photos of that cabinet: http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?...splay-case-look-like.42463/page-9#post-982930 If you look in the final photo, you can see the trunking for the cables on the right hand side running up the back corner. Hope that answers your question but if you need more info, just ask.
What a beautifully displayed collection, it's not often I see a Combex toy in another SB'ers photo too. An eclectic mix, lovely stuff.
