Ouch. As Joe suggested, I find this hardly surprising.... and yet still disappointing. This is definitely not what Yuji would want, I am fairly confident of that, and for just this reason I mentioned before that hopefully M1 is either setting aside additional of these for other sales and/or events, or could possibly do another run, similar to what we've in the past. Just thinking on the massive batches of older stuff (including trikes and the Mysterians sets) which were on offer at G-Fest (I think?), available at the original retail price from years back. Some of which was also bought to be turned around [sigh] but also hopefully a good few of which went in to some very happy folks' hands. So yeah, unlike scarcity and aftermarket with Buta toys, I still hold out some hope.
Well forgive people for getting excited! Somehow I knew Hedorah would fetch higher prices compared to the other trikes. Sad to say he is a specifically sought after kaiju. I bet Toho wished they didn’t give Banno such a hard time for his film in retrospect...
The Hedorah tricycles are also being sold at Tokyo Comic Con this weekend, so those sellers may actually be in Japan.
M1GO knows that people love the tricycles, they are going to keep on making and selling them for the foreseeable future. I would stay patient, and if you can get to California for Monsterpalooza or Designer-Con, you will have a good shot at buying them firsthand.
Yes, I am hoping that will be the case. M1 made many different color versions of the previous tricycles. And I'm pretty sure there will be some even more awesome colorways of the Hedorah tricycle. At first I was like, I must have it now! But I'm going to remain patient. (I wouldn't be able to go to the events you mentioned as I am located in Australia)
Not sure if this is the right spot for this even though it is a collaboration with Yuji. But preview of Justin Ishmael collaboration with M1 for a Ray Harryhausen Cyclops trike for 2020.
@chimply.kaiju I snapped a couple shots of that one eyed three wheeler as well, but they’re residing in the DCon thread. That’s gonna be a fun as hell release. To see a beast such as the Cyclops, known for being massive and towering, shrunken down and riding a tricycle is just awesome.
If M1 follow the Harryhausen theme, a Kraken and Medusa would also make for great content. Getting Medusa's snake body on a trike would be 'interesting'
Would enjoy seeing those in a less granular style, if M1 were to somehow take it up themselves. That said the cyclops is a collab with Ish, so I'm guessing any future entries will depend on him.
Yeah I gotta agree with this. I love Harryhausen and M1 trikes but I find this particular rendition to be a little bit too realistic (screen accurate?) for what I’ve come to expect for the line. Still, final verdict withheld until a painted release and I’m sure the box art will be worth admission alone.
Part of me agrees with you guys, but I think he'd sit next to godzilla(the most detailed of the trikes) perfectly. If I were picky, I'd say I'd prefer the fur to be smoother. Something similar to kumon. If there were a few less crack/scale/skin details it would fit in with the smoother M1 sculpts as well. That's not going to stop me from trying to buy up every release I can. Maybe Hirota will paint a run so it will become his toy and you'll forget it's part of the M1go line.
I know @JustinIshmael doesn't seem to active here, but maybe he could give us some background on how this came to be. I really like the sculpt and think it fits on the bike pretty well. I know I had a conversation with him a while ago and he mentioned he was working on some Cyclops licenses and mentioned James Groman might sculpt them. But I would think if andy of these new Cyclops figures were sculpted by James there would be mention of it somewhere.
You know, on second thought I hear you. Some of the grooves and folds on the head especially might be a bit too regular and defined for me, but in general he's not as detailed as I first thought, and I can see him getting on well with Goji.
I think M1s glossy paint work will smooth out a lot of detail on the trike and make it fit in better visually.
That also looks like a clay sculpt, so I'd imagine it will get 'smoothed out' even more in the transition to vinyl.
I think David's captured it perfectly, and Daniel is right as well. This is just a clay sculpt, but even so, I could see the final executed vinyl version, especially after Yuji has put his amazingly skilled hands to the paint work, fitting it quite well with the other trike fellas. And precisely here, the fact that this is not a 'Hirota' toy etc., means that it should be judged on its own merit, and not whatever background/artist/hype BS people seem to chase toys on in 2019 - something I am grateful for. I suspect they will be in high demand anyways, so I'll just be happy to have them as a standard release. In terms of other Harryhausen-inspired monsters, it's a maybe from me. I am probably equal to the biggest fan there is of the man and his many works, but I also think the cyclops works more in the 'kaiju' monster field without necessarily having this association, while at the same time there are also so many Tsuburaya (and other) monsters I would love to see get new sculpts like this. So I'd be content if this was a cool one-off/branch to the M1 family, but either way basically I am just excited.
RIGHT!!! A friends showed me this a few days ago, I pretty much lost it. Such a great sculpt(way better than any other M1 Gamera).
Bah! Their Nitto midsize repro is the bomb, and their Nitto-what-never-was Gamera II has miles of charm! That shouted, though, this new little fella is great!
