My thoughts exactly. When this guy popped up in my insta-feed I sighed and wondered who'd ruined this Matango blank - then saw it was m1 posting
The choice to have it hug a larger tower, rather than have a miniature one to match its size, is really cool. And I love that he can look as if he’s climbing it. The color choices are super nice, too.
I agree, and really love the colours on this release, both of Minya and the tower. Seeing the photo though you've posted Joe, just makes me want a mini army of Minyas!
Aw man I would have given the entire figure just the fleshy paints, and a real shirt & belt! Belt could even have been printed on the shirt...
I am really sorry, Rei. Two such genius suggestions in the span of as many posts, I am going to have to restrict you from posting any more for the remainder of the year, or the end of this coronavirus crisis, whichever comes sooner. You are on notice.
My comments regarding such 'forced' paint apps have been noted in other less illustrious threads. They sucked then, and unfortunately, even when the mighty M1 tries . . . they still suck. Mini tower dudes fortunately restore balance and the colours are stunning.
Well I like the clothed Matango but of course part of it is because Matango is a touchstone movie to me and I fuckkin' love it.
I just can't get down the the Schroom Man Porky Piggin' it. Full nude or no nude! Actually it's more to Andy's point - forcing something out of the sculpt that's not baked in there never quite works for my eyes. I had the same problem with that jack-o-lantern app, fun as the set on a whole looked. *or Winnie the Poohin', as the shirt color may be.
This is a bit odd of a reaction to the new Matango figure. I mean, it's not really my thing either...but it's not like it came outta nowhere. M1 did the exact same thing based on Mami (Kumi Mizuno's character from the movie) recently. And no one seemed to complain then. This new figure seems to be the perfect--and logical--companion piece. [That said, I have no idea what inspired the jack-o-lantern paint scheme...at least, from the perspective of the film. Wasn't really feeling that one either.]
I don't think it is complaining as such, or at least not for mine own part that I can speak to. Just that, , it doesn't amaze me or make me instantly crave it, like so many of Yuji's other wonderful toys. I see it, and appreciate it, and heck - I'll be honest here - if someone offered one to me I would welcome it gladly. More I just think it could have been so much more (in my mind), and that fully and wholly imaginary comparison is its weak point. As I explained in my post, I see this as a quirk small run, like the Halloween guy, but in a different category than the normal releases.
He should have painted the belt up at the Matango's chest, like the original character. Thought this one and the Mami version were creative and clever, even if they are not something I would necessarily buy. Maybe better than another free-spray-only repaint of the Matango sculpt that would get lost among the sea of existing versions? (Personally, I love the Halloween Matango.)
I wish I could claim it. I’ve meant to do a pic with Matango in a compromising position for the “Taken from Behind” thread for years now.
Oh, in that case I think it's totally different from the new belt/shirt Matango. I don't care for the necklace, but at least it can be removed. And the paint application is abstract and doesn't detract from the sculpt.
