I saw the hardcore Devo show in NYC it was a blast. Only got to see them with Bob 2 once...about 12 years ago in Brooklyn...Tom Tom Club opened. It was in a giant empty pool.
If memory serves me correctly I went the following year. Rose Bowl in LA 1995/6? Main stage was Metallica, Soundgarden, the Ramones, Devo. God knows who is on the second stage. I was there to see the Ramones, everything else was gravy. First real concert was Green Day in the San Diego Sports Arena Halloween 1994. I believe the Pansy Division opened up for them.
I haven’t gotten the experience of seeing them live, and I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to witness the beginnings. Meeting Mark Mothersbaugh at a comic shop I worked at in LA ten years ago was a real great moment. Geeked out about circuit bending and how important Freedom Of Choice was to me. He thought I was weird, but he was real nice about it.
I got to see the BBoys when they played there. Definitely a cool spot. It was also how I found out someone I skated with when I was younger was their guitar tech.
First show I remember anyways! I think technically my first was Eyedea and Abilities but I was too young to remember.
KISS November 6, 1979 with Breathless opening... Disco-era. Anaheim Convention Center I would NOT want to be quarantined with them (KISS) now. I can barely stand my own family right now
black sabbath, pantera and system of a down (black sabbath reunion tour ‘99 @ the great western forum). that’d be one hell of a quarantining.
The first outdoor amphitheatre event I went to, late seventies with my folks, was Bill Cosby, so... Opener was a harmonica player who was having severe feedback loop troubles. Same summer we went for a laser-light spectacular featuring the Boston Pops playing John Williams tunes.
If Cheap Trick opened for them at your show then you definitely got the better gig. However, if Cheap Trick opened for Cosby...
