Those are cool monsters! they must have sold out very quickly, I did not seem them on the site. I am so psyched about the cosmic sunburn peanut though, I think it is grody shogun's best figure & release in a long time. I love the color choice and its big nose and all.
I'm really lovin' both of Luke's new sculpts, but I gotta say that Peanut takes the cake for me. Such a disturbingly cute character. Can't wait to see where more versions of both go! The new Monsters are great, as well! Taken from the Lulubell Instagram:
I agree that peanut is the better of the two in this case, but I think a different paint job on the Cyclorrhapha Kid would do some serious justice. This debut paint job seems oddly normal, he painted each detail normally with bug-like colors. It is lacking some nice drips or splatters or something. Regardless, it is still a great piece and I can not wait for more in the future!
Hey Jeff - did you ever grace us with a pic of the finished product? It came up tonight, indirectly, and I realized that I'd still love to see it. In fact, anyone else still have their CREATE YOUR OWN MONSTER! dollies? I don't think that I'm the only one who might enjoy some new snaps of those aging pretties.
This is one that I got from a fellow board member. Great design imo! I especially like the eyes, they look oddly human like for a grody piece.
Anybody have a snap or two of the first painted version of Francois Le Grand?* The one that looks like a classic snap-together model that your friend's cool uncle painted up in '71. * Thanks, photobucket!
https://lulubelltoys.com/collections/frontpage/products/francios-le-grand-grey-matter-version I love the new Francios le grand micro run. I think it's some of grodyshogun's best paint work in a long time. So goddamn fun but also quite dark.
Honestly I'm surprised it has not sold out yet. I would have expected this to go quick. I guess it doesn't work for everyone. I think its a masterpiece. Although I am into vintage toys, and things like 80's American action figures have an appeal that I think this Francios also has (toy lines like toxic crusaders). Maybe that's part of why I like it so much.
Grody Shogun continues to be one of the most prolific, experimental, and interesting artists in the game yet this thread seems lost and forgotten... Here is a new mash up I scored from lulubell a few days ago. I am in love the creativity of his mash ups. Everything going on with this fly guy is awesome, especially the lil gems in its eyes, cute touch!
Luke’s nonstop originality and ingenuity are why he’s my favorite toy maker. That fly neko is really cool! If anyone who preordered the Invisible Chiba would like to trade him to me for this guy, please let me know:
It was mentioned on their IG post but all I can see when I look at this is a caricature of blackface. I love the folks at Lulubell and Luke's work as an artist but this is kinda of hard for me to see past. I'm hoping I'm missing something.
When I saw it I thought it was cartoony and fun I didnt automatically think "this is black face" Just looks like a caricature of a child or something. Reminds me of my cousin from mexico a bit.
Rich used to hang here as Dj Will Ross... has not posted since 2017. I have to agree with your take on it, was my first thought in seeing it as well... and given this, it was interesting, in the Lulu mailer that just went out, that they highlighted Rich's affinity for classic 80s-90s rap. If this is intended like a KMD "Black Bastards" ironic/reclaimed use of a Sambo-style character... that would be hard to accept, to say the least, coming from a white dude. He seemed like a very nice guy whenever I encountered him at shows... I wonder what he might have to say about the sculpt.
I'd be really curious to hear what the artist or Lulu's take on it might be. I choose to believe that the intent is not malicious but the resemblance is undeniable to me.
Im a fan of gorilla/monkey figs so this lil dude would fit right in I would think. The backstory on the lulubell blog is a bit more disturbing however. The back of his head is cool as well!
