I don't think it was there all the time though, but nice to have it back. I am still surprised by some people who have logged in, that haven't changed their avatars, when you can see random members who only ever lurk here have logged in since the 'nu' site became up and running have done so.
^Haha. I've noticed a bunch of blank avatars on regular members as well. I find it a little disconcerting for some reason, like they've been 'Borged' or something.
Yeah it was there, I didn't add it. Updated the list with a couple things that have been fixed. I also added a visual element to the top of forums that have sub-forums to make the sub-forums easier to spot.
While I am really happy to have the thread titles back now in their usual place above each post, would there be any way to maintain the title of the thread when each post was made? Sorry, it is difficult to explain, but what I mean is, it was nice when you could see the thread title 'history' during the posting sequence, as sometimes it does change, in sales threads, for example. Not a big issue, but just a quirk I noticed as now the title gets back-updated to whatever the most recent one is.
Let's pretend that it is a big issue, as it's yet another example of the old history of the board being erased. Acceptable, yes, but only if it turns out to be a technical necessity. As a friend mentioned recently, "No backtracking through history, boo."
@ultrakaiju & @toothaction Thread titles are a little different in this forum. In the previous software, the thread title was part of the post entry in the database, so you could reference that in every post. In this software, the thread title is only specific to the thread, not the posts. So there's no way to post the thread title in a way that doesn't reflect the overall thread title changes without some heavy duty modification to the board that I'm not able to do on my own.
@TiredChildren Figured as much, thanks for the confirmation. Perhaps, if your time allows for it, a brief email to the developers would be appropriate. We had another instance today of a new member skipping his homework and jumping straight in to asking for stuff via a want thread. What do you all, the board, and you, @ExhaustedJames, think about the idea of simply keeping the whole marketplace forum locked or invisible until the minimum post count of 25 is achieved? Would that even be possible here? I know that other boards have similar coding in place
I presumed it was a software thing as well James, and I hope you don't think our listing of little comments here or there are any reflection on the tremendous work you have already put in to making this place transition in such an efficient fashion. Really only bringing these things up to have them on record for eventual consideration, or so we ourselves can look into how to change them. As you rightly pointed out, any of us are just as capable of looking up the capabilities possible within XenForo ourselves. We really do appreciate all of your - completely voluntary - efforts on this; and since you brought up, please know, too, that I offer myself - as much as I am able to - as I am sure many others will as well, to assist you in any specific efforts you might be struggling with in doing the board changes and whatnot, as I know this is very much a one-man mission at this point.
viewing the site on mobile, every single redirect just leads back to the homepage (even though the web address definitely changes accordingly) even if I open up my message window, instead of the messages showing up it shows a small version of the homepage (which is cute, but still annoying) Edit: seems to be working now!
I thought I might have mentioned this before, but very possible I spaced on it. Would it be possible to still have the functionality in the advanced search to select 'first posts' in the discussion? Also, might I enquire, what exactly is involved in the "child forums?"
Sorry dudes, it's been super busy at work lately. Haven't had time to check in. I'm alive though. This was an oversight on my part. Users with less than 25 posts shouldn't even be able to start a new thread, even if they wanted to circumvent the rules. It should be fixed now though.
I want my Smelly Shoes. Requesting again a button that allows us to embed audio from sites like Soundcoud. That is all.
I'm suddenly not getting email notifications for new thread posts. Not sure about messages. Anyone else?!? @TiredChildren
Throw me into that lot too (hasn't been working for at least 3 days now). My notify by email option seems to be unchecked, but checking it doesn't help, because it reverts back to being unchecked.
I don't want to read through 16 pages to check if this has been mentioned. But 'start conversation' really? Please can we just have pm back. I don't want to start a bloody conversation I just want to pm someone. And put it at the back where it was, it made sense there. Respectfully
^ Sorry, it's been mentioned, but with this new forum software, it's not really possible. I'll look into notifications. I didn't change anything, so I'm not sure why they would have stopped working.
I couldn't find any posts about the below two issues, so I'm asking before I forget: - Is there any way to preview new conversations (i.e., like the preview PM option from the old board) so that you can see if everything is laid out correctly? - Has anyone else noticed that the search function seems to cap the number of hits at 10 pages or so? If you search for long-running terms, e.g., "Gargamel", your hits usually end around 2009-10. I can't tell exactly what the cutoff is, but I know I'm not able to pull some of the older hits from the board search function (although I'm able to find them when I use Google to search www.skullbrain.org).
