You couldn't have picked a more classic toy for this long-needed bump, @Alebrije! Would you be so kind as to give us another snap of your moth hater and his little friend once they're free from their plastic tomb? Only page 2? Really? More PA pr0n, please!
Ah, couldn't have put it better. Such a lovely Goji you picked up there Roger! Pilot Ace at its finest, such a gem to look at. I really like how different their versions are, much more lean and standing than a lot of Godzilla toys, and really great sculpting detail all over him. Realised in such a lovely shade of blue-green vinyl, he really comes to life. A perfect case to revive this thread for, and wonderful addition to any collection. Congratulations!
Thank you guys (toothaction, Steve) for your nice comments, I am very happy with this new Goji, as you know lately I've been obsessed with vintage figures, but from the figures that we might call new or contemporary the Pilot Ace are the ones I like more. The work he does in all his sculptures is amazing and as you mention Steve, there are many variations of colors, particularly have seen about 6 color versions of this figure (Mosu-goji). I would like to have more but unfortunately you can not see them that often. toothaction; later I will try to upload some pictures with the diorama of Mothra.
Thank you Rei, the colorway of your Goji it´s one of my favorites, if I´m not wrong is the Show Exclusive.
Cool! I actually have no idea about the different editions. These three make up my Pilot Ace collection:
The green King Goji it's a Show Exclusive too, concerning to the Gigan I do not have much information. There's even some blank versions of the Pilot Ace Godzilla figures, but are not seen very often on sale. My favorite it's that King Goji; just a beautiful piece. They came solo~ I wasn't granted the omakes! But I figured I'd scoop em up anyways, since I probably wouldn't see them up for sale again! And I haven't. I do love this colorway for Gigan that I have, but I'd sure love to also get the blue!
So, so excited to finally own of these. Just gotta hunt down the(what I think is) original version for the set.
Here's a pic of it if you look at the first post on the first page of this thread: http://skullbrain.org/bb/index.php?threads/pilot-ace-beagle-cyclops-question.30467/ Only person I know with one is Mr. Paul Kaiju. I have the other two but have been looking for that version for years to complete the set.
Very interesting, @Lixx! I notice the two at the top are painted the same, one and two horn(different hand w/club), but neither are painted in the fashion of the version I came up on! The Wonder Fest version was up for bid, as well, but went over the $250 mark.
Yeah I forgot to mention that one double horned cyclops in that pic was the prototype but the version you got was the tegular release.
Ah, I see! That clubbed hand would've been one hell of a release. I do very much enjoy the paint app on the two horn that I now have, but something about that first release is just awesome.
I think all of us were hoping for a club to be included in one of the releases but it never came to pass. The WF special release was the best IMO, and maybe it's because I don't own it but the gold paint highlights and less muted chest color really make the cyclops pop. As seen in Paul Kaiju's pic: Don't get me wrong though I own the other two and absolutely love them and would never give them up. Real shame this series folded rather quickly. I still am also looking for a Ymir!
Definitely love the WF version myself too, such a shame it has been so elusive for us all. Although I have (and still do) always wanted a club accessory, I am not certain if in the proto version it is not molded in to the arm itself (i.e. one solid piece), and maybe - just spit-balling here - pulling that part was too difficult, or they just weren't satisfied with the way it came out, hence the change. In any case, Pilot Ace always does fantastic work, and I would have so loved to see the Harryhausen line continue with more figures.
It would have been great if they had also made the concept version of the Cyclops: And the "Club" version! Wonder what became of the clay mould of Kali or if it only was a promotion image?
Some nice eye candy additions for this thread... Sadly not mine, they belong to funnyara – https://www.instagram.com/funnyara/ https://instagram.com/p/VTySynTRvb/ https://instagram.com/p/Vbf0lHzRu_/ – I will be forever gutted I was slightly too late on a Mandarake purchase on this guy 2,700yen back in the old days! (sure I've posted this somewhere before?)
Yeah man we all have stories of the ones that got away but I just realized why you were so sore about this unpainted version! Never noticed it was a prototype with a club in hand- which is what we all were hoping for in that 2nd release.
