Continuing the theme for brown love, I honestly wish my old camera could do this guy better justice; these lousy pics don't even come close to capturing this fellas beauty. His chocolate vinyl is just the kind that melts me, pure decadence. LONG time want finally fulfilled here, but I am sure I probably don't need to explain that to anyone. It doesn't get a whole lot better than Yuji's Tetsujin-28. Haven't had a whole lot of M1 stuff (or toys) to share in ages, so when something like this does come along, it is extra special. Ticking off so many boxes in one toy, I could not be happier I connected with this l'il [giant] robot. I'll let the pictures tell the rest.
Congrats Steve! The brown chocolate vinyl color is delicious looking. Makes me want to break him apart and start chomping on him. Nom nom nom.
Daimajin is a nice display piece, about 9" tall. There are other Majin sofubis but I think this one is the nicest design. The red version looks cool. I am OK with brown because it is sort of closer to the movie, but red looks cooler.
@ultrakaiju Congrats Steve for this major score, a great piece and hard to find this days. Always feel great satisfaction when we catch something that has been on our want list for a long time, So now you only have to enjoy it!
Thanks for the warm reception guys. I am happy that there are some other folks our there who appreciate this guy as well. [And before anyone asks, no he is not the one who just sold for 21,600円 on Mandarake. ] I think I had this guy on my very first wants list when I joined SB, so it truly was a case of diligent searching and patience; things which in some sectors of this hobby are still valid traits. Very stoked (even if I can't munch on him from time to time), and he is very happy to join his other counterparts. Oh, and to answer your question @Super_Shogunator, he is a standard-sized figure, coming in at about 21.5 cm.
Great score Steve! I think we now have opposite problems - I need this guy to go with my Giant chocolate brown T-28 and you need the Giant to go with this fine fella.
You are too right, Chris. And unfortunately, both are getting pretty slim in their appearances on the market, but I'll keep my spectacles polished for another on the horizon for you. And, failing any success for either of us, we'll just have to arrange some kind of visitation rights for these fellows, I know you've already got plenty of vintage treasures I am super keen on man eyehandling in person.
Nice one, Rei. One of the lesser known robots, and one of the few 'kaiju' toys with weapons. He is quite interesting in this darker/mirror-universe paint scheme. Oh well, double-post but what the hell, I am here anyways.
@ultrakaiju - Congrats again on the score! Trust it feels great to finally land that big brown behemoth.
Oooh, totally jealous of that one Archam! Such a gorgeous set; Yuji sculpts on these 'cutesy' minis is a thing of true artistry, mimicking that classic style, and his paints are, as always, the perfect blend of colour and subtle application. On GID vinyl it just comes out amazing. The fact that you not only got the whole set together, but also the base for them, is really nice. Congratulations on some special (in my eyes) toys.
^ Always thought that they were actual repros. BEAUTIFUL set though. A passive want of mine for over a decade!
That's a good point. I have never seen the vintage versions of them all (well I might have done at some point through the years, but my memory is spotty), but probably they do exist, but I am also not certain whether these were simple newer versions or done from scratch. Probably someone here has the answer, but I find it doubtful that Yuji had mold access (especially considering the rarity of even the toys themselves), and so I am hedging my bet that he likely re-sculpted these from the originals, or from a revers molding procedure from them.
Thanks @ultrakaiju , this set is great, I'm almost sure that this baby series is inspired by an old Marusan Ultra Q coin bank series , so probably a new sculpt. But I have to get my hands on the Marusan originals pictures that inspired him.
I can think of no one else more suited to be immortalised in soft vinyl. This set crosses the whole toy spectrum to become something fun as well as significant. The entire idea Yuji and the M1 team had for this is genius. And even without any of the story, I just plain love it; no detail is overlooked. An homage and expression of love and respect, if ever there was one. Brings me a smile every time, and I hope the 'great one' as well.
