I think you're only missing the King Alien and Arachnid Alien from what I consider the 'regular' releases. Some of the figures were repainted and re-released, either solo or as 2-packs, and at least one of the repaints was released with a new name (Panther Alien became Night Cougar Alien). There was also an electronic figure - Swarm Alien as well as the basic Warrior Alien that was part of the Alien vs. Predator 2-pack. The 10" Alien vs. Predator Toys-r-Us 2-pack was really pretty awesome and I'm sorry that I never picked that up. My brother has it, though, so I can always drop by his place if I want to play with it.

Nice piece! Just a general question: A lot of the 1970s/1980s pre-computer packaging looks awesome. Has anybody ever scored original artwork from the packaging and such? I know I've seen examples of Japanese packaging original art. And I have see some foreign packaging artwork at the Outsider Art Fair in NYC. But past that, nada.

That's a really great question and I'd be very interested to know if anyone collects this stuff.

You really need to see Mark Nagata's collection of original paintings used for old Ultraman card art. Fucking breath-taking...

Sounds cool. Think I saw some pics up here on the boards? But man, U.S. packaging art from the 1960s/1970s. Someone out there has to have a stash? Every time I wander around Gramercy Park/Park Avenue South (where a lot of toy companies had marketing offices) I think there has to be some flat file somewhere that has this stuff.

I think I'm going to start doing more local research.

a lot of the remco motu knock off stuff is pretty cool. it's more or less basic aside from the dc character releases, but i still love it. but yeah, i would love to find a sight full of images of painted cards of vintage figures! i'll search out the nagata get-up too....

I've seen some photos of some of Mark Nagata's collection. It's pretty amazing. His Ultraman collection should be documented in a book or something.
I've seen a couple of YJA auctions for some original vintage art. I suppose that stuff pops up now and then on online auctions and probably in live auctions, too. It's probably a matter of keeping your eyes peeled, your ear to the ground and perhaps having some good contacts, as well as the money to spend when the opportunity arises.

On the contemporary side of things, a couple of years agao I saw a piece of original box art from Jim Woodring's boxed set of Frank, Pupshaw and Pushpaw for sale on his blog. Someone beat me to it, though.

I think there was a thread in the 'Vintage' forum a while back about box art. I think I remember a few really great scans being posted there. I'll see if I can find it.

ugh, I hate mini mates, they always feel like horribly made kubricks to me.
And usually lacking in the stuff I love from Kubricks.
