Has anyone else noticed that he pretty much ripped two Cinema Monster releases recently? Not tryin' to start a shit storm. The Awesome Toy paint app was somethin' I kinda chuckled at, but the recent marble tease was a bit much.
You are dead on... That yellow and green paint was just like the cinema with the exception of the really off-putting blue metallic feet, but now this mix vinyl is an attempt at the exact same colors. Obviously Luke is not doing these... Love @xftwx comment on the Instagram post lol.
On another note, I received my blank red "Ettin" from planetX and love it. What an enormous chunk of red vinyl! The weapon is huge and cool also.
I thought the exact same thing. Blue marble Ettin right after a successful blue marble Cinema Monster release. That red is real nice though @topher.
i didn't notice, Coincidental, or intentional I don't know. But I will say, I will take Grody and Shirahama's marbles. That almost looks painted.
It would be very easy to make a blue toy look like this with a light blue spray. The coolest thing about great marbling is there would be no way to replicate it w paint.
Now that you mention it, and I do study it, it does look like a spray pattern. Regardless, I can't help but think they saw the Milky Way Cinema Monster and went with the color combination. I suppose I can't fault them for the color palette, it's phenomenal, but I still find it in bad taste.
Perhaps I worded that wrong. I personally find the blatant copying of variants to be in bad taste. This wasn't, in my eyes, any sort of tribute or homage. The toy itself, I honestly do like, and the Ettin heads I favor more over the Cyclops, though they are a bit bulbous.
Sorry, Robert, just giving you a hard time. It's a rough day here, and there too, I'm sure. I like the toy unpainted, and prefer the cyclops head myself, but A) that "marbling" looks more like paint, like Topher said, than any actual marbling, and B) it is a blatant rip off colorway, unless it really is an issue of extreme coincidence.
I also prefer the Double Cyclops over the ettin heads. These heads are really misshapen and if comparing with Bemon or even SX Toy's Yabanjin, or even the soon to be released Bemon style figure, there really is no comparison. I like PlanetxAsia and what they are producing but these feel rushed compared to their first Dual Cyclops release. Maybe a strong paint app will change my mind but so far these are a pass for me. To each his own.
it works well on the all red, but in the blue with what does look like spray to me... the heads dont work on that pic above... hmmm
I had to go check this out on Instagram for myself to see it in context, and you're right. This makes me super uncomfortable, to be honest. Is this some kind of odd business competition? Like "well that colorway of Cinema Monster did well, let's do that too!" ...except in most of the toy world, that's frowned upon, unless we're talking homages to vintage color schemes...
Unreal... I just saw one from some other company that is almost exactly the same but has a face in the stomach.
I like the single head version. The combination of somewhat realistic features and cartoon fur looks nice.
Are these first generation rip-offs, or second and third? I'm having trouble keeping up with who (US, China, Japan...) are knocking out original sculpts anymore...
The apes get my money regardless of who made them first! lol Still waiting for an international release of the mecha ones first though. Some blank pulls are supposed to be dropping at Fuckaiju soon.
I'm not a big fan of most of their toys, but I love their mecha gorilla(or whatever it is called). It's a really nice mix of something I've seen before and something completely new. Hopefully future toys go this direction rather than having less design thought and closely following trends.
Are you talking about the one from Red Hot Style? I'm pretty sure they're not ripping anyone off. Everything they've done so far, has a unique and original look to it. I think their gorilla looks much cooler than this one.
