I have no personal connection witn the toymaker"planetXasia" @planetxasia on Instagram, but the figures are impressive IMO. They have done several collaborations/lotteries, full and one off releases in only a couple of months with their debut Twinclops figure. I was drawn to this version with paints by "Lord master prince" it came bagged with great header art. I love the fact that the different heads reflect the classic mouth and horn differences like the old Billiken kits. And yes I do realize that this is not a very original sculpt or concept but it was executed very nicely.
Their next figure is a version of Marusan's Gosura. Crazy pointy details, digital sculpt I'm assuming?[/IMG]
I love the Twinclops. It easily, and dare I say obviously, echoes the Pilot Ace Cyclops quite heavily. But the dual heads/expressions/mouths is pretty awesome. Unfortunately, as it stands for me, this LMP version, the Obsessed Panda "Classic" and the BBQ duck homage are the only paint apps I feel have done this toy justice. The rest I've seen are simply WAY too random and out there. It also bugs the living hell out of me that almost every single release has the hooves painted the same color as the legs.
I like the sculpt on the Cyclops a lot, but boy is that skull club an eye sore. Really reminds me of bad skull clip art, and I think it just isn't necessary. Would've been much better without imho.
Planet Asia is from Fresno, and been in the game since the 90's. PlanetxAsia need to let a Fresnian a shot at a Blank purple
They recently started making a morning star weapon version to. I have one coming sometime between next week so ill take a picture of it. And the weapon is just an accessory just like what most action figures come with so if you don't like it you don't have to show the mace at all lol.
I don't know. The sculpt is way too similar to Pilot Ace's for me to give this toy a second look. There are enough copycats out there already, why this? One of the reasons I love the classic cyclops design is the fact that the monster has a single, creepy eye. Putting an additional one-eyed head on the monster is something I would have never thought of. It just feels odd to me and throws off the entire design. Regarding the mace -- I don't think it even aesthetically looks like it fits with the Twinclops. A spiky, gnarly, visually busy mace vs. the refined, smooth-ish, and calculated body sculpt. It kind of reminds me of the Corrosion of Conformity logo (which is also a terrible design but memorable for its terribleness). I'm not trying to shit on this toy at all. If you love it, more power to you. I just see a lot of nopes, and that's just my opinion. Sound logic, as always lol. If you're paying good money for something, I don't think it's all that silly to want to enjoy said something in its entirety, and not have to ignore part of it.
Jason, the Pilot Ace comment was the first thing I mentioned to some friends when they revealed the sculpt on Instagram. Literally looks like the Pilot Ace body with sharper nails/horns and refined heads/faces. I personally do like this one, probably mainly in part to the Pilot Ace version, but all points made are sound. @good_life_toys on Instagram is giving this dual headed Harryhausen beast a pretty perfect homage paint app right now, too.
Well put, @bansheebot. I've been passively trying to figure out how to comment on this toy without just coming off as a snicky snark for a couple of days now. Now to go figure out how to comment on the paint work without being a total a-hole.
these were the 2 that I painted both runs of 3. For it being a digital sculpt I was super impressed. Sorry for the large pictures
Its just one of many things he can do. The most logical thing to do is not buy any of them till a weapon is sculpted that he actually likes for this toy. Because it sounds like just making it a different color wont fix his dislike in the weapon. The toy maker could also offer versions without the weapon at a reduced price to for those that do not care for it. I don't see why they couldn't?
It's no secret that PlanetxAsia's basing his toys after existing toys. That information comes from his own instagram , so yes to Pilot Ace influenced twin headed cyclops and what was already mentioned with Marusan's Gosura. Whether it's your bag or not, PxA was the first to refer to them as the inspiration so he seems to be upfront and honest about it. I suppose you'd call them tributes. The one I'm interested in, depending on how they end up being painted, is the Ark Kong influenced Mecha Goliathon, of which there's never been a vinyl version. View this post on Instagram I think PxA needs to be more selective with who he's having paint these tho. While some of them look great, it looks like he's giving the go ahead to anyone interested... Then again, they're all selling out, so maybe it's just me. I don't think it's hype.
Looking forward to this version popping up soon to! I honestly love that solid red. It would go great with my Cestoda and Iron Monster pieces.
To be fair i wasn't expecting new head sculpts so soon into this toys debut. Im quite content with the cyclops heads atm. Here's another angle he posted. And hes basing of of this which is probably a movie iv never seen before.
It's based off the two headed BEMON lets be honest, and that totally cool. Same for the famous monsters cover of which BEMON was based off. The movie is title only as no one has done an homage to it yet, or at least in vinyl. I think these look weird because the jaw is narrow and the back of the head is large and egg like. It gives it a weird look. Unique, but not for me and I love that BEMON look.
I think the reason they look kinda goofy, to me at least, is because they're really big. They seem disproportionate to the body. But I don't think the actual sculpt is bad at all.
Yeah the sculpt ( digital I think) is well done. But it's just off to me. I'd like to see something more original though rather than just an almost duplicate of the pilot ace sculpt and BEMON. It's obvious they make quaility so why not just make a more unique versions of these toys. I'd even like to see them take these pilot ace and BEMON versions and distort them to to a point it's unique to them.
