My girlfriend and I brought Chinese food last time we went. Our neighbors were jealous of our Lo-mein game.

    @MisterYuck
Insanity. I was actually going to mention that last time I did get to the theater they had a bunch of "real" foods, so maybe some of the older standby snacks may have been pushed out.

That restored my faith in Red Letter Media. Best thing they've done since their infamous Mr. Plinket deconstruction/destruction of "The Phantom Menace." When those guys set their minds to it, they really excel at a painfully honest sort of hand-wringing and analysis about everything wrong with things we love.

    And they're funny.

Because this has been a real shit week all around, may I offer a little palate cleanser for the weekend. The very great crew at Filmumentariesa.k.a. documentarian Jamie Benning — have released a video showing Star Wars toys being assembled at the kenner and Palitoy plants. Bonus points for featuring some truly wonderful toy shelves circa 1983, complete with ROTJ bounty and Action Force. Oh, to be able to wander those aisles (again).

Unfortunately, I can't seem to embed the video, as it is just on their FB group, but you can see it here (without logging in):

    * edit: never mind, I think it worked now

Rogue One - best Star Wars film in 30 years, and the first one since Return of the Jedi that feels like it belongs with the trilogy. This should have been the one prequel (or Episode 3, I guess) made, and you can toss the rest of the crap.

In comparison, the Force Awakens felt like a mimicking reboot shadow of Episode 4, which it mostly was.

I heard Carrie Fisher suffered a major heart attack on a flight from London to LA and is in critical condition. Man 2016 really fucking sucks, worst year since I don't know when. I'm no Star Wars fanboy but geez enough already.....

I was sitting in the theatre, preping for Rogue One when I saw a dreaded post on Ig,
I looked for confirmation right after THAT ending, Ouff, that is so sad and fucked up ..
    RIP Princess.

Finally saw today (of all days- the ending- tears), and cannot agree more with Andy, whose statement here gave me hope after reading a couple lukewarm-to-dismal reviews. LOVED it. THAT was a fucking Star Wars movie.

Finally saw R1 last night. Beyond incredible. The ending surpassed anything I could have hoped and dreamed for.

Huh, guess I'm a little more luke warm on this latest installment than the rest of ya'. Where my @ultrakaiju at?

    Old news, new to me:

Nope lukewarm here too. For me Star Wars has always been about the dynamic characters and alien stuff. Not the lightsabers, pew pew stuff, space ships etc.
There really weren't many good/well written characters. Granted I liked Krenic and the robot but the others meh.
Also, when Darth Vader went crazy at the end, raising his fist walking through the hallway...I laughed. That Darth Vader did not fit in line with the New Hope/Empire/Return versions. That was pure fandom.

I thought showing Vader's pure brutality was excellent. It gave you a glimmer of what Vader is really like "on the field", if you will. He's not an officer or crew member like everyone else on those Destroyers, he's pure military muscle doing the Emperor's bidding.
