i dont like either tiger toy, but it seems BJJART has been doing actual tiger rugs for a year or so now, and is Korean and has a personal history with the subject, so other than bad timing with releasing a toy after one so successful i dont really see a problem

i dont think its a problem per se but theres just no way you hire kto and not crunch the numbers of whats out right now and how your toy could be perceived in comparison. i personally like that he has a history with the design but i just cant help but feel like it was not accidental

 

Is it maybe just bad timing?

The first Tibeo lotto was held April 23rd. So if this was an attempt to ride the hype train, that's 3 months to get a knock-off sculpted, jointed, waxed, molded, pulled, delivered and painted.

Seems like just bad timing on BJJART's behalf like like @michael stated

maybe its the insider illuminati everyones always talking about lol

i respect the hell out of kento and headlock and wish the best for BJJART- rip or not people seemed hyped and will buy it regardless.\

im sure we will be seeing more tiger style toys in the future too , maybe its the next wave of 2 headed toys or gorilla robots

 

to be faiiirrrr ive sculpted in 24hrs and had wax in a month. so its not totally impossible but im starting to give bjjjjj the benefit of da doubt for sure

@michael Ahh! Thank you for bringing all these points across! I had no idea and didn’t think to look back on it, obviously. I too am glad BJJ has a history with both the rugs and this specific design, but I still gotta kinda wonder about the timing, since Ken’s Tibeo test pull was November 2019. Perhaps not so much of a rip, as I chose to ignorantly say, but turning the design into a toy does seem intentional to the footsteps of Headlock. I still don’t like the BJJ version, but I am less annoyed by it, now that I’ve been schooled on the design having an existing history. Even still, my eyebrow is raised on the timing of the toy being released. Regardless, I appreciate you bringin’ up some valid points!

 

Totally agree Robert- I feel like bjj just saw the success and was like “hey I can turn my art into a toy too!”

 

Ken posted a story of a new Tiger head with a caption about "for collectors, not flippers, or copy designers." I have seen a lot of people do stickers and merch with the tiger rug long before Tibeo, but the toy does seem clearly derived from Headlock doing it first.

 

Saw that post too and thought it was pretty obvious what he was referencing.

I have a drawing/character idea of a logo of mine as a body/head and just two legs and feet that I did around mid-2018 that I thought would make a cool chunky keshi/resin piece, and then Bruno came out from Headlock in early 2019(?), which I friggin’ LOVE and got the two offered at FivePoints 2019.

This design is all contained within my garage/creative space/brain, so I’m in no way attempting to compare myself to Headlock and co., but since then, I’ve re-thought some aspects of it without changing the tribute to the head on feet design. STILL, there is NO way I’d go through the work of producing a toy out of it and trying to sell it WITHOUT giving a nod to Headlock in particular for being so rad and ahead of the curve.

I don’t plan on collecting Tibeo, but I prefer the Headlock design over the other one. And the timing is quite suspect.

I definitely do prefer the rug over the toy though.
