@hellointerloper I could be wrong but it seems the person posting those pics is just a store, and the artist is Longneck. Still unclear on it but if that's the case I'm pretty sad.

I think it's still possible to not consciously mean harm out of ignorance, and especially possible for someone in a pretty insular and homogeneous country. But I don't think that's a free pass for making blackface dolls in 2018. If it is indeed Yoda's toy, it would be cool if someone who corresponds with him out here could explain why this was nasty.

 

I really havent, as I said Im just giving the benefit of the doubt and to be honest I like the original and joker q versions more. Also what do you consider an ugly or rehashed toy? honest question, not judging since I have my own gripes with some designs.

The sculpt itself, I think is alright, but the "fugliest" aspect of this line is the packaging. If you're all not aware (which I doubt you are) it says "Japanese vinyl" front and center on the box.......but they're produced in China as far as I know.

Yeah, I’ve seen these. The series is labeled as “Japanese Vinyl” but they’re “inspired by” Japanese vinyl, and the labels actually does say “Made in China” somewhere. They’re soft vinyl, but more along the lines of Medicom or Gums Productions. Infinitely better than the Pop shit, but I think the marketing terminology on the box is weak. Admittedly, I have seen a few older releases that were aesthetically pleasing, though I’d never own one.

 

Yeah figured I'd post it since I continuously run into them at my local Newbury Comics shop. Some of the paint apps are nice, but the whole "designer" aspect of it and very KidRobot-esque body styles throw me for a loop every time I see one.

Also I can totally get on board with your GUMS Productions point. My 10" Asphaerius toys were produced by GUMS and I am not afraid to come out and say that I was rather shocked by the lackluster quality in some regards of the pulls. (very noticeable seams, weak joints, etc...). I posted about this too but what's even funnier is I could have actually saved money moving production over to Japan via SciencePatrols. It's astounding and mildly disgusting.
