I've been jamming the Dum Dum Girls a lot. Yeah, not that original (Jesus Mary Chain/Raveonettes [who rip JMC anyway]) but still enjoyable.

i saw them open for some other band (can't think of who) a few years ago and they definitely put on a pretty entertaining show.

I did'nt look at the tracklist when I got the cd and when
I heard the first seconds of Refuse/Resist, I went all chilly.

Anyone else listening to the new Big Boi album? Technically impressive (but of course!) but I dunno ... maybe I just need more time with it. I know the last Outkast album sucked but I'd love to see them come back swinging as a team. Big Boi is uber-slick but without Dre3k's raps it feels like something is missing.

Is anyone else getting a little tired of the "every song features a different guest star" gimmick?

Years ago. God how annoying! It's like people don't know how to write an album anymore. I can forgive up to 3 songs with "guests" as long as there are 15+ tracks - but when 50% of the songs have other people on them just call the damn thing a compilation. The last great rap album I heard, that only had one person rapping for the entire album, was Aceyalone's "A Book of Human Language", and that was probably '98 or so.
Another thing that bugs the shit outta me in rap are all the "skit" tracks. So dumb and annoying, and they just look like filler. MF Doom has gotten really bad with this crap where you essentially get an EP's worth of music but it's labeled as an LP.
Right now rap is dead to me (with a few exceptions) - I'll listen to my older stuff and wait for rap's next creative wave to hit. Right now there's too much good metal to care about how stale rap has gotten.

I wouldn't say it's dead, but pretty damn near. Only newer hip hop that has been doing anything for me lately is Sole and The Skyrider Band(both albums are great). I'm just glad there's tons of of older stuff on Rhymesayers, Def Jux and Anticon to hold me over until hip hop comes back around again. I need a new Deep Puddle Dynamics release asap.

My two favorite genres are Hip hop and Electro/Techno.

I listen to lots of stuff in different sub genres of hip-hop. Just some of my favs.

    Hiphop
Abstract rap; I like to listen to artists such as El-P, Cannibal Ox and MF Doom.
Hardcore rap; artists such as Jedi Mind Tricks, Non Phixion, Necro, Cage and immortal technique.
West Coast heads; Dilated Peoples, Zion I
    South; Little Brother
Don't know where to put him but i loved his latest album; Fabio musta

    Techno/Electro
    Stephan Bodzin
    Oliver Huntemann
    Richy Hawtin
    DJ Hell
    Tiefschwarz

I'm not sure how things got messed up, but I never wrote the words misattributed to me in Aldo's post. I have no idea what's going on in the metal world and I don't feel that rap is dead LOL.

See, I can't even stand new Def Jux or MF Doom - or anyone I use to listen to. And I always felt Anticon, Rhymesayers, etc were the biggest fakes.
I don't think rappers can write more than two albums worth of material before they just start rehashing and sounding stale. My two favorite rap labels went south really quick - Def Jux & Solesides (Quannum).
Cannibal Ox released one (great) album and haven't done anything since. El-P only released one good album and followed it up with an album of (mostly) previously released instrumentals (which I actually like, but isn't a rap album), and then another weak rap album (but he was great with CoFlo). Mr. Lif can't write a full album to save his life - and generally can't write a full song. Aesop Rock's earlier stuff was interesting, but then got boring and annoying really quick. Cage is a wannabe. Camu Tao died.
Solesides released some great singles early on, and then the Latyrx album and Blackalicious' "Nia" and everything since has been watered down at best.
Rawkus, Heiro, Project Blowed, Wu, Solesides, etc really changed rap in the 90s. There aren't any labels/groups like that right now. (Though I do still like new RZA, GZA, etc.) I'd rather listen to Three 6 Mafia than new indie rap.

I was just saying, hip hop isn't dead, it's just at a low point right now.

Nice! Last time I saw tool was in '97, one guy looked like he was in the Blue Man Group and the singer had a shaved head, painted white face, boxer briefs, and a bra with realistic looking tits in it. It was pretty awesome.
