Purchased the new xwing lego. It's pretty rad and fun to build. I love how the engines are like the McQuarrie design where it's split in two. Absolutely hate putting on the stickers though. It's super frustrating to me.
Agh, stickers on Lego? That is an idea I am not liking. Cost cutting measure maybe, but with the price of Lego sets these days being almost exclusively for the collector market (honestly, can any kids actually expect these anymore - that makes me sad), I would hope that the quality is worthy of the investment. And I have hated putting stickers on toys myself since I was a kid; so I guess that is a throwback I won't get over.
Yeah, stickers suck, but it seems most sets have them nowadays. I suppose it does keep their costs down but still... They should at least offer the templates for download so you can reprint them. I heard the X-Wing was being recalled, Bryce. Did you have problems with the cockpit window not closing?
I played with Legos as a kid but I really don't get the adult appeal. I mean the end result just looks like a giant pixelated 80's video game. I guess that's the appeal. Kids I get. Then again we collect plastic toys. Also not to be a debbie downer but isn't this thread "Sick of Star Wars"? Lol I thought it was to rail on all bad aspects of the Lucas i.e.now Disney empire.
I think they did that before the last series of movies as well. Can't remember, I know I have an unopened Darth Maul and some robot in storage at my sisters that will never be worth anything or my brother in law has confiscated. It's not surprising though, I'm surprised my school hasn't mandated we all wear t-shirts promoting the movie given the absolute level of marketing and cross marketing that goes into promotion these days. I feel bad for kids today, the brainwashing is relentless from the womb.
I don't know, I quite enjoy the happy irony that the SW fans on SB have taken over the thread Robert started. Just goes to show that there are a few of us on the board. And we do like it. Really, would it be better at this point to have a dedicated Star Wars thread as well as one for grumpy Star Wars hate? Not that I disagree with you at all Lixx. It is certainly ridiculous. And Disney is not helping matters; though, to be fair, the LF engine went off the rails already before then. But hey, we can choose who/what we love.
Just goes to show you how important grammar is. The (yes, accidental) omission of an apostrophe tee makes all the difference in the world. A sage truth. Probably to different degrees depending on the individual, but I think precisely because so many folks felt strongly about what the OT meant to them, that you almost want it to stay as it was. Alas, time and change.
haha, yikes! ~Went through the Target aisle today, wasn't compelled to pick anything up! Time & change indeed...
So true. I collect a lot of the SW Lego releases and truly love the ship designs from all six movies, but really don't see the appeal of any of the movies (the prequel, of course, but also the original trilogy). People make all kinds of assumptions when they see my desk at work. I've learned to just nod and smile in silence. But you know what. I'll go see the new movie.
So, getting back to the appreciation of things Star Wars, these paper cutout dioramas from HobbyLink Japan are pretty dreamy. This one of the classic Ben-Darth duel onboard the Death Star, with the Stormtroopers in the back has to be my favourite, but they are all pretty amazing. For a mere 1,200Yen, this is something that really would look wonderful on most shelves. As they are just die-cut in paper (and, given the price point) I am not sure they are all that durable, but heck, very well executed. Plus, not a non-OT scene in sight! And this is another great one, that gives you a idea of the 'depth' of the scenes. Some other larger images viewable here.
Sick of SW for real today Bad play on words : Je suis ton air - riff on : Je suis ton père. (I'm am your father) Design sucks too IMO
"Umm, actually I said wookiee ." Haha, gave me a good chuckle. The type of thing I would probably laugh out loud at in my workplace, only for everyone else to wonder what that mentalist was doing in the washroom.
I'm sure you guys have heard about this Ello Asty alien by now.. not sure how it's sitting with me personally. Star Wars is Star Wars.. I don't want to be distracted while watching the movie by the director's little winks/easter eggs about pop culture on Earth. The trailers look great but if a few little things like this pop up in the final cut they could really leave some Jar Jar marks in this new movie.. It was bad enough having Beastie Boys songs in the new Star Trek films.. Here's hoping we don't get a little 8-bit version of Intergalactic to beep it's way out of a droid at some point..
You mean like picking some latest teeniebop of the last 5mins of 'pop' fame to do the principal recording for song from a 50-year franchise that features some of the most iconic themes in motion picture history? No, I don't see how that could go wrong at all. I just hope that they are not focusing so much on making 'the next Star Wars movie' as just giving us a good movie. But looking at Abrams' Trek films, and from the past experience with both Lucasfilm and Disney, I would not set my hopes very high.
Ello Asty - semi cool tribute as SW is already crap anyway. No Hope. Beastie Boys > Star Wars (after Empire) > Movies as a form of entertainment. Didn't know that, how inane. That be fun actually.
Surprised no one has mentioned the new trailer. Looks pretty bad. I completely see where they are going with the characters, the girl is the new Luke Skywalker type etc etc...its the same lame trope studios have been retreading for years. Nothing wrong with strong female leads- but I can almost visually see the studio exec saying "We need the new Luke Skywalker only this time it's a girl!" gleefully cumming in his own pants like he's discovered gold or something. It just has reboot all over it. Same character types but with new young cast and cameos from the old leads. Not really anything new story wise......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (insert sleeping emoji)
Formulas $ell, so creativity is only for the indie up & comers. Big businesses can't afford to go changing any established product (like Star Wars) and do something new and creative with it, too much to lo$e... Expecting something great and new out of this next SW chapter is like expecting something great and new from a tired, old, watered-down with money but still famous rock star. Aside from the fanboy knucklehead consumer-slaves that will attend in droves, other folks might go to the show, but only with the hope of capturing a bit of nostalgia. ps~ I'm going for the visuals
