Bringing The Sopranos and vinyl toys full circle... Club Daikaiju's office used to be on the upper floor of The Party Box's building, on 17 South in Lodi, right next to Satin Dolls, where the "Bada Bing" scenes are filmed. Sometimes we would sit outside, taking a breather from painting, assembling, and bagging kaiju to watch the traffic. On any given weekend, at least once every half hour or so there would be some out-of-towner risking death by braking in front of Satin Dolls to see what the place looked like. After a brief squall of horns, they'd either speed up again or pull into The Party Box's parking lot, where they would usually gawk at the plaque they had hanging outside the door. At one time there was construction going on 17 in that area, and there were signs up that looked as if they were written in crayon that read, "Please slow down, my daddy works here." We always felt there should be a sign in front of Satin Dolls that read, "Please slow down, my mommy works here." (Obvious, I know, but still funny.) I've only seen two or three episodes of The Sopranos. I should watch it because most of it takes place in my back yard. I'll probably catch up on DVD eventually.
Hey, Roger! I'm right in your neck of the woods. I pass Satin Dolls everyday, my office is in Lodi. Small world!
Opinions on the Many Saints of Newark? Mine: Spoiler I didn't like it. No discernable story arcs or character arcs, pretty much everything is left undeveloped or unresolved. We don't get to spend enough time with Dickie, or Christopher, or Harold for us to see any kind of progression in their storylines or characters. And stuff like the idea that Baby Christuphuh is in touch with "the other side" just made me cringe. David Chase ran a great show once, but he doesn't have the makings of a varsity filmmaker.
Spoiler Would have rather gotten 30 seconds post Made in America than those 2 hours. Best parts were seeing the actors play their characters. Dat dude who's in everything was a great Junior. Paulie guy pulled it off, but I found the Sil attempt pretty bad.
