Yes it's a Sunguts mash-up with a strawberry head (often used) and a Suiko body (if she has a shell) or a classic body. Sunguts makes a lot of this kind of mash-up.
@Fedhai Thanks for the confirmation! @akum6n @AgentRavage Hehe...The description translated to "condensed milk", which is apparently a thing.
This thread doesn't get enough attention. Sunguts is always has a place in my heart although some the toys are incredibly hard to stand and display. That being said..I'm loving the sharks that he is doing. I used to be obsessed with sharks as a kid.
Longtime shark lover too. I'm sure there are still some shark books marked up with crayons in my parents' attic somewhere. I'd like to get 1 of each sculpt, but each in a different colorway. Of the sharks, so far I only have Tateobesu, Tateeboshi, and Double Head Tateobesu. Also have a few other marine creatures, including a clear blue Tylosaurus, which is a fun sculpt. They can definitely be harder to obtain sometimes but iv been able to collect 2 color ways of the hammer head and normal shark as well as 1 blue squid. Ill post a picture shot later.
Yeah, the shark series is great, I picked up the Basking Shark and another I can't find now, lol. Really wish I had known about the Kamata-Kun 1 day license at WF, no one has made any good Shin Goji sofubi yet and that one looks awesome.
@Headhunter , that blue squid looks really nice. I still haven't picked up a kraken, but know that I'd like to go for 1 of the translucent ones.. As far as new toys go, I've been pleasantly surprised how many places I've actually come across toys from the Sunguts Hyakki series, and for great prices too. M-World and Arcadia Japon aren't on that list. I couldn't agree more about the 2nd Phase Shin Gojira from WF, @Shirahama.
@Shirahama - Based on what you know of the 1-day license for the Kamata-Kun figure (love that nickname, btw), do you think this will be a one-off release that might not be reissued again? I am not too familiar with Sunguts releases, but I love everything about this sculpt. I agree with your comment that it is the best sofubi released so far for the film. For me, it's a perfect tribute to such a lovable and somewhat goofy-looking character.
@deafmetal - Sunguts has reissued some of the 1 day license figures again only at events. The clear orange Baragon is it's third reissue at WF. The Gamera's and GMK Godzilla have all been reissued more than once only at events. So hopefully there is a good chance we may see it again before the end of the year.
I figure why waste the mold cost, it's more feasible to get another one day license and do another run.
Trouble is, the festival only releases are flipper fuel. I saw that Frankenstein mini figure on ebay two days ago priced at $149. The listing was taken down because the seller said it was sold privately . . . some crazy rich dude bought it at that price.
Saw that too, and was slightly tempted to take the dive cuz it's such an awesome figure. Glad I had some self-control.
@chimply.kaiju & all - Thank you for the info. How are the aftermarket prices on the clear Baragons? I know these figures originally sold for something like 3,000 JPY, but given the popularity of Toho kaiju (especially Kamata-Kun), I am concerned that these figures will always sell out immediately and stay expensive. My problem is that I am very smitten with this 2nd form Shin Goji, and have been searching high and low for any fair prices. I have seen one each of the Goji and the Frankenstein sell immediately for 7,800 JPY on YJA, but I'm also seeing quite a few gojis going for ~13,000-20,000 JPY on YJA. Any idea how many were made? I try to avoid getting into too many new sculpts or companies in general, but this one has me totally hooked. Any advice is appreciated, or if you want to move one along just get in touch.
@deafmetal - I don't know about the clear Baragon aftermarket prices. But the first release are cheap and I usually see them under 3500 yen. I scored mine for only 2,000 yen which was less than retail! The glow Baragon I see around 5000 to 7000 yen. Don't know production run on any. Sunguts doesn't publish that information. *red Baragon is a Bear Model compared with Sunguts version.
Looks like a new collaborative effort coming soon.. Pics from @ka8824zu twitter page. First I'm seeing this, and assuming he is responsible for them. Man, I'll have to get that cat student a go. I tried to get the girl version at SuperFestival but it sold out before I could get anywhere near the table.
This particular guy looks more like a cat teacher... And yeah its definitely one of the more popular tables, gotta get there with the quickness!
They had a few new Goji sculpts yesterday that went in a flash too. I'm still holding out for a 2nd form and the little Frank but not for $200.
