Just to be clear, I didn't compare the two films. Also, I didn't say I didn't like The Witch. All I said was I'd rather rewatch The Void than it.

I'm currently watching a movie called Alucarda. If you want to see a movie about witches then you should track down this craziness!

Alucarda! Love that one so much! So much so, in fact, that I've recommended it here on 4 separate occasions, ha! Here's the most recent one, spurred on by a conversation about The Witch!
    Tiny town we got here.

Everything by Juan López Moctezuma is worth a look. He got his start alongside Alejandro Jodorowsky, and if that's not enough to get you curious about him, then there is absolutely nothing that I can do for you!

Mary, Mary Bloody Mary is gonna get watched this week. It was added to Amazon Prime a short while ago.

BTW, that's a great list. Here's my "classics," list, that was posted just a page or so after yours. ;)

I can agree with a good chunk of that list making it into mine as well. Others while so good get bumped for my love of schlock horror.

On the off off off off chance that you ever feel like having an in-home film festival based on the first flicks that sprang to the front of my head when @BrickBat asked for top 10 lists* in June of last year...

Island of Lost Souls (1933, Erle C. Kenton)
    Devil Doll (1936, Tod Browning)
House of Frankenstein (1944, Erle C. Kenton)
    Repulsion (1965, Roman Polanski)
Death Laid an Egg (1968, Giulio Questi)
Horrors of Malformed Men (1969, Teruo Ishii)
Daughters of Darkness (1971, Harry Kümel)
The Blood Spattered Bride (1972, Vicente Aranda)
Don't Look Now (1973, Nicolas Roeg)
    Black Christmas (1974, Bob Clark)
    Shivers (1975, David Cronenberg)
    The Tenant (1976, Roman Polanski)
Alien Prey (1977, Norman J. Warren)
Day of the Animals (1977, William Girdler)
    Demon Seed (1977, Donald Cammell)
    Hausu (1977, Nobuhiko Obayashi)
    Suspira (1977, Dario Argento)
    Alucarda (1978, Juan López Moctezuma)
    The Manitou (1978, William Girdler)
    Patrick (1978, Richard Franklin)
    The Shout (1978, Jerzy Skolimowski)
    Possession (1981, Andrzej Żuławski)
    Der Fan (1982, Eckhart Schmidt)
    The Thing (1982, John Carpenter)
White of the Eye** (1987, Donald Cammell)
Evil Dead Trap (1988, Toshiharu Ikeda)

Here are all ten of them, ahem, conveniently ordered and slightly annotated. Because NOBODY demanded it!

    * Not 10 long, obviously, and also probably not containing my actual top 10, were that list even possible to generate. Kisses!
**Not exactly horror, but there's plenty of murder and the like.

10 horror and horror-ish films from the past 10 years that I can actually remember right now...

Let the Right One In (2008, Tomas Alfredson)
    The Strangers (2008, Bryan Bertino)
Drag Me to Hell (2009, Sam Raimi)
    Kill List (2011, Ben Wheatley)
    You're Next (2011, Adam Wingard)
Berberian Sound Studio (2012, Peter Strickland)
    Bad Milo! (2013, Jacob Vaughn)
Hell Baby (2013, Robert Ben Garant & Thomas Lennon)
It Follows (2014, David Robert Mitchell)
    Antibirth (2016, Danny Perez)
...that I'd happily have a look at again tonight. At least 10 more are lingering in my head that lean even further into the ish category. 2017 doesn't count yet.

What even happened in 2010, by the way? Or 2015? Blank spots in the banks, and I refuse to look at release lists when indulging in such useless projects.

Great lists @toothaction. I've either seen, or are planning to see, pretty much everything on them. I'm not as big a fan of Antibirth as you, but it's definitely something people should check out. I need to try Drag me to Hell again. I really didn't care for it the first time I watched it, but I think I missed something.

I'm giving House (the William Katt one, not the AMAZING Japanese one) another chance right now. I've started and stopped it two or three times, but I constantly see it on people's Top Of lists. What am I missing? I guess I'll find out.

Stakeland II is on netflix now! I really enjoyed the first for what it was. A no budget end of the world vampire flick with actual acting and story and decent dialog. Part 2 is a good continuation of the franchise and Nick Damici is becoming of one my favorite horror actors. He killed it in both of these films and as the blind war vet killing werewolves in Late Phases. He was great in some after dark horror film too as an ex-boxer fighting a plague of rat people.

Dark Song is another one I saw recently about a dead woman trying to do a ritual to contact the dead. The was very much worth watching but kind of a slow dragging atmosphere with the male co-lead being a serious asshole. Great acting by both people and an interesting story.

Saw The Devils Candy since people here mentioned it and I enjoyed it a lot. For what it was I had a blast watching and that last kill was rock and roll!

Cage was another film I saw awhile back and it is utterly awful. Regrettable in every single possible way. Just don't.
It's about a stupid woman who has phone sex for money and decides meeting some creep for a couple grand is a good idea. She wakes up in a cage in a warehouse somewhere changed up but with food and water and a phone of all things. Her unseen captor says she is free to use the phone all she wants as long as she doesn't call the cops. So the whole movie is her apologizing to her friends and family for missing dates and whatnot and talking to the guy who locked her up on the phone. After days upon days of being caged she finds out her father has a heart attack and her captor who is out of state finally feels bad and says he'll let her go. He is talking to her from a plane about releasing her but it gets hijacked by terrorists and the call ends. Then you find out when she calls her boyfriend again that fucking 9/11 just happened and the kidnapper was a victim on a plane so she's still trapped and won't ever be saved. Cause you know cops can't trace a call or anything. Fuck you movie.

Beyond the Gates is now on Netflix as well. Could have been good, but the dialogue is just juvenile. There are a lot of really awkward moments, and only about three or four good scares and gross-out moments. It's short at least. Really disappointed this one wasn't better.

And my take on House, which I mentioned above, is that now at least I can say I've watched it. I do NOT understand the love this film has garnered over the years. Totally corny and cheesy.

I did finally watch The Day of the Animals @toothaction and it was a hoot! Oh, and Hell Baby, too.

The best thing I've seen since I last posted was Malatesta's Carnival of Blood. Wow! It's on Prime AND Shudder, so get to watching if you have one or the other. It's super weird, super low-budget, but with that certain je ne sais quoi that movies like Messiah of Evil have.

Clown is now on Netflix, and it's worth a look-see. It's actually more body-horror than "Psycho Clown" which I think makes it easier to sympathize with the poor sap. A lot of the violence is off-screen so it's not super gory, and the acting is pretty solid for the most part. I'd watch this one again.

Mh, I feel different about Clown.
    Light spoilers ahead:
The premise is great but the execution was kind of boring and totally lacking surprises and suspense. There were some good ideas (colorful snot) that I think they could have made more with. The whole clown theme - why not fully embrace it?!
The way they did it was just 'guy turns into killer'.

True. It seems like they decided to tone down the comical aspects of it. Worth a free watch, IMO, if you have Netflix.

Clown was just ok for me too. Cool make up though.
Just went on a bit of a tear and saw a few good ones and one stinker:
Green Inferno was an abomination. Good gore and that's it. Eli Roth is a complete hack. Cabin Fever was his only decent movie. I will no longer waste my time on his movies.
Neon Demon was a pleasant surprise though! Underneath the psychedelic art house look and feel was a simple fun story that paid off. I was very satisfied with this one.
10 Cloverfield lane was another surprise for me! Great acting and a nice tense atmosphere. I like how different the beginning/middle felt from the end. Loved that it loosely tied into Cloverfield. I'll be watching the 3rd installment when it comes out for sure.
All in all some good horror luck for me recently!

I liked Green Inferno. :) The acting was horrible, and the writing was hackneyed, but it was fun.

I remember years ago I belonged to David Lynch's pay website, and Roth cruised the message board A LOT. He talked about his movie project A LOT. I watched Cabin Fever with my wife (girlfriend at the time) on DVD some time later and realized it was that movie by that guy, and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. I'll never forget that shaving scene. Roth has made/produced some real crap, but I kind of give the guy a pass because of his exuberance for film. If you thought Green Inferno was bad, by all means avoid Knock, Knock like the plague! Just for comparison, I think Kevin Smith is a much worse film maker than Roth. Which I suppose isn't saying much.

Anyone seen Covenant yet? I've only seen bits and pieces of Prometheus as it honestly looked sub-par, but Covenant just looks down right awesome as hell.

Action wise yes, but I found myself just lamenting at the sheer stupiditiy of the characters- and how they set themselves up for doom over an over! Quarrantine protocols? Nope. Touching everything you should not? Check. Should have instantly destroyed a rogue android up to no good? Yeah but whoops... Straying off course leads to disaster? Yes! There could be no movie if bad decisions are not made? Yes Yes!

I found myself just rooting for anyhting to wipe out this cast for how much poor judgment exists btw them.

Prometheus was on FX yesterday and I watched that again. Overall a better movie (not saying much) IMO.

Watched Train to Busan. Great zombie movie with some pretty tense scenes. Nothing you have never seen before but still very entertaining and also manages to hit you emotionally.

@a.tom it was a great looking, well acted, self contained little horror-thriller. Tone-wise I wasn't expecting how grim and intense it would be. So I left the theater feeling like I'd been hit in the stomach. Maybe its because I'm a recent family man but it really got to me. Definitely worth a watch, just don't go into it thinking you'll "enjoy" it. Haha. Its definitely not the movie the last trailers I saw were selling.

XX is on Netflix now, and I wish I could give an enthusiastic recommendation for this one, but it wasn't very good. When I first saw the trailer I was really excited to see it, but as so often happens all the good stuff is shown in it, and the intrigue it conjures up isn't fleshed out in ANY of the stories. It's short, so if you have about 80 minutes to kill you might find something in it worth a look-see, but I wish I could say SEE IT NOW, instead of just, MEH.
