That was fast but not surprising. It's worth it to buy a VIP to get in early, if I was there I'd do the same. Another way to make it fair is to not sell to people wearing vendor badges since vendors get to line up way before the VIP & public gets in the door. Some sellers at SDCC have the 'no selling to vendor badge' rule but I'm not sure if any booths enforce this at Dcon since it's so low key.
just my speculation but since most of the sofubi makers decided to sell at 10:15 so everyone gets a fair chance everyone who had vip went straight to sour lemon
Sigh .. wish I could teleport there & try for a GID Mecha zag or Mecha Miborah. Pictures would be appreciated ! Thanks
Those were cool but man were they expensive lol.To bad he couldnt do a normal run of one of his toys. I'll just wait for the lucky bag at the beginning of the year. ☺
I didn't recognize 70% of the line outside this morning and overheard a few conversations about how much items could be market in overseas after market.
i actually just heard them say they dont know the name of the figures (butanohana) they are buying. i wish i could tell gargamel but im kind of far back
That's why I think a single verbal question/trivia at the time of purchase is a good idea. Worked for us at SVM3 this year. It's fucking lame.. I saw some photos earlier of the Gargamel line-up. You can see the contrast between fans who are smiling, have looks of excitement and anticipation on their faces, having conversations with other fans in the line - and then you have the guys who look bored as fuck, stone cold expressions on their faces, standing in the line just waiting to buy their little short-term "investment".
Here are my photos. I was running around and getting in lines so I missed most of the good stuff that got sold early https://www.flickr.com/photos/149543328@N06/albums/72157689156833824 Man... So... This is my third DCON. My first DCON was 2015 and the only reason I went was because I was googling maba zombies and "warui zonbi" came up and said they would be available at DCON 2015. I had absolutely no knowledge of the current sofubi market and never even heard of HxS, Goccodo or Punk drunkers etc... I went at about 7am in the morning to assure I would secure a warui zonbi set, but later on realized that I didn't have to. Later when I returned to the trutek booth there was still some warui zonbis available but he had something behind him. It was a green goccodo kusaikusops figure. I looked at it and was absolutely marveled. Obviously it was already sold out. But when I came home, I looked it up on ebay and was shocked. it was selling with a buy it now for $395. and it actually sold. That's when I realized how the current sofubi market is. and I also realized that skullbrain does not like flipping. When I listed that I need the green kusaikusops figure from DCON 2015, A skullbrainer hooked me up at a real cool price. In 2016, I really wasn't feeling dcon but I went because of the shocking king korpse. it turned out to be even cooler than the last one. This year I had two figures that I absolutely needed to have. both of them were first come first serve so I went to dcon at 3am. There was already 9 people in front of me. These dudes said they came at 11pm yesterday.... So.... This DCON WAS STRANGE. The Japanese booths announced that they would start selling at 10:15am. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? The good news is that I got the first two things that I came at 3am for. and also for me this DCON was very very special. I am a diehard maba zombies fan, Violence toys seriously brought it for me this year! I think the new maba zombie size creepies are even cooler than the big ones!
At five points resellers purchased tables so they can get in line first. After they grabbed up the stuff in the morning they went back to their tables that had a few dozen pieces that were easy to fit in luggage.
you gotta admire their hustle but man does it suck when youre behind two people and then more and more of their friends come and next thing you know the toy you wanted sold out to their group
it really wasnt considering all the japanese artists who wanted to make it fair(which was awesome) and all the people who had a vip pass
I was maybe 10th person through the doors this morning and Itokin line was already a good 40 strong. It is still a great seen but it is also, as all scenes become, too big for it's own good I think. But I still had a great day and some things about all my years of dedication came together today in profoundly wonderful ways.
After closing I was honestly surprised to see Uamaou had 2 of her RealHead Uamoau figures with the masks that her fagther had made still available
VIP tickets are a way to fleece the sofubi community. We did it, and the artists stuck it to the VIP thing by starting their sales later. Crowds of old ladies for PDS and Goccodo and RxH. But it's important to remember why we enjoy this hobby in the first place, and not dwell on the negative too much. I had a fantastic time at the Lulu booth, getting a handshake from PK, and running into boardies and IG folk I never see in real life. And there were still tons of cool toys for everyone.
I agree with you. Dcon is still incredible, and the best con to hang out at with a bunch of friends you rarely see. Plus there is so much out there that everyone in attendance gets something they want(or a dozen things). There are hiccups and complaints, but overall I still thoroughly enjoy it.
Being new too the community, I am thankful I got to go to dcon this year. I really enjoyed meeting people, and artists. Nate, Doug, Bwana, rampage, and joeman Really cool. I didn’t get a VIP pass, and just bought some little things from people. I didn’t really understand the raffle deals, or standing in lines. I feel for people who missed out on toys. I’ll be there tomorrow/ Sunday. Hope too see people Thanks y’all!
Hey don't feel bad man I ended up buying lots of little guys to. If I bought big ticket items I'd be broke in no time. If you see a guy with a big military tan backpack that would be me lol.
Next year seems like it's going to be even better with the convention being relocated next to Disney Land. I'm definitely planning on going again though.
So does Butanohana actually have a table set up at this event or is it another seller through them? I've not even seen any pics anywhere of the Butanohana set up at Dcon. Different versions of the recent release correct?
Yeah I've been getting a couple tiny pieces but I love them nonetheless. I am going to try and see if I can get an Are today and that Shonside ninja cat is something neat as well.
