Yes. I was thinking along those lines too, possibly something akin to the M1 version, with the robotic control dome. If you look, you can sort of interpret the neck on him to be wider as well, which I think would be to be able to 'insert' the extra small piece inside the vinyl of the neck joint, and then the MG mask could be fitted on top of that. Everything is pure speculation at this point of course, but wow; I can't get over these. I also think you are probably right on the licenses for these, Anthony. Unfortunate, but likely. Something similar happened with the previous Toho micro set, making it now very hard to come by. I don't put any fault at the Buta company's feet, it is likely just something that they can do (like the Gundam figures), without having to battle as much. Now, WHY a company sees licensing only a tiny limited number would affect their 'brand' any more than a standard release, you got me.
This would actually be the second MechaG that OMB has produced - the first was from that elusive Toho set where he was masquerading as Godzilla... with a mask! Makes all the sense in the world that a similarly wonderful gimmick would be employed with this new guy - bring on the tech nub!
Anybody have a photo of this first Toho set? @bryce_r - I'm still holding firm! Those damn Sunguts gojis though...
I used to have a nice photo of these on my wants list, but unfortunately it, too, was purged into the aether. Not shown in the photo above is that the set also came packaged with one of the 'tank' micros, which is actually quite interesting, given the subject matter. The set was a special release from Superfestival 65. A couple more pics, for a bit better look (still not doing them justice): PACKAGED AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAA INDIVIDUALLY BAGGED AND UNWRAPPED (with Goji reveal!)
Arrgh! I remember hemming and hawwing a wee bit too long when I saw them, and they were snatched up! Really cute bite fulls!
@ultrakaiju - Steve, thank you for posting those photos. I really love the colors, and that MechaG with removable mask is just outstanding.
So it was a regular online release for these. (Sorry for the pic size.) Two mecha godzillas (according to the text) with removable looking heads. Can not wait to see what is hidden underneath!
Ah shucks! Well, that does make me happy that they were actually available through the normal webshop (as difficult as that can be anyways). I imagine that the sale lasted all of 52 seconds before selling out again, but congrats to Kuolio and anyone reading this that managed to score either or both of these fantastic sets. You know we will be demanding pics to imagine what these would be like in joyful person.
The teensy rivets on the mecha are a great detail. Does anyone know how the masks come off? Is it like the Bandai vintage figures, which are fragile and easy to tear at the top seam (back of mask). Please post pic of back of heads, if you are lucky enough to adopt. It's getting harder to ignore the planetary pull of the micros...
I think the micros may feature my favorite sculpts. That’s really hard to say tho I guess, without having so many in hand. Congratulations to those who were able to pick these up. They sure look mighty nice.
Very sweet and very fast! I was still digging out from our blizzard when these came and went, I guess. Very cute little guys!
The mechagodzilla is incredible, but I think hedorah is my favorite of the bunch View this post on Instagram
I got my sets yesterday too, and I have to agree. The Hedorah feels Super polished and considered, compared to the cruder styles of the rest. Love the glossy eyes contrasting to the sprays. Maybe it`s too much to hope for a larger sculpt of the character soon, but I wouldn`t be shocked either.
