Personally, I’m surprised it took this long to ban him. He seemed to revel in personally attacking Rich again and again which isn’t right. I’d have banned him for that noise. You can be a jerk, fine- but to make it so personal? To seemingly take enjoyment with agitating and taking shots at one person in particular again and again and again? I would have banned him for that a while back.
OH YOU LIKE TURTLES? LET ME TELL YOU MY STORY ABOUT TURTLES. A FEW YEARS AGO I WAS ORGANISING A SHOW, AND A CERTAIN ARTIST... WE’LL CALL HIM VHM...
Well that degenerated quickly. We had almost a page of actual relevant discussion. I feel so adult right now.
I'm crap at adulting but fuckin' awesome at being adulated! There's a lot of bullshit being spouted in this thread and not all of it's from me!
OH YOU LIKE STROKES? LET ME TNNNNNNNnnnnnnGGG <has massive stroke; co-workers find me dead, slumped over keyboard; plastic dollies forum up on screen adds layer of pitiful poignancy to the sadness and confusion> Alright, so I had to get my comedy post out, in the midst of the usual get-the-family-out-the-door morning circus… but now that I have time… (looks directly into camera) Glenn, as you can see, you have a lot of support here. People have enjoyed your contributions and presence, even your irascibility. I count myself among them, and I hope your ban's not permanent. But this continuing habit of throwing up a wall of words relevant to your personal beef with Rich on this public forum, or taunting him every time he makes an appearance here... (gently places a hand on Glenn’s shoulder)… it’s getting weird, man. It’s been weird. Business can go wrong (way wrong), even between two good people, both with the best of intentions. Misunderstandings occur, straight-up shit happens, with many attendant, unknown personal life factors coming into play for both parties. Sometimes it feels like you believe you’re sounding a warning about Rich to anyone who would consider working with him… but man, there seems to be no appreciable, broader evidence in his considerable track record to support such. I’ve probably stepped in it now, opening up any specifics relevant to your beef… but really, what it comes down to- and I say this with affection, as your fellow obsessive weirdo, on a board full of ‘em- is letting go. Shit’s history now. It’s your prerogative to never work with him again, it’s your prerogative to give your take on how your dealing with him went… but it would be better if that happened offline or privately, and when solicited. It’s even your prerogative to keep simmering about it… but having lived and learned, man, I would not at all recommend it.
One man's 'weird' is another's counterpoint to all the inane ass-kissing, cheerleading and painfully transparent neediness! S'all about perspective!
Isn't that what we pay you to provide, though? Butt seriously- though your point is not without merit, there's counterpoint, and then there's what Glenn was doing, which I would say was mostly flogging a dead horse.
I'd argue there is a correlation between this place becoming a "ghost town" and people like Glenn driving them away.
I have nothing to do with Glenn getting banned in case anyone is wondering. Since I see my name being bright up I just wanted to chime in for what it’s worth. It’s clear I don’t like him, that’s putting it lightly. And I’d rather we not talk to or about each other. But I don’t want to see him banned either. He should be able to enjoy what he enjoys and talk about it. We can both exist in this space. I know it’s a clear line of people either like me or loathe me. And I know who is who. It’s no secret on this board. That’s cool. What ever. I’d just like to enjoy this board also without the bullshit as well. I’d say let Glenn back. He should be able to enjoy being able to talk about toys as it’s clear he has a passion for them.
According to what he posted himself just last week he had been told to "lay off" and clearly didn't care. He was told to leave MVH alone so he calls "MDH" a "motherfucker" and a "piece of shit" and says everyone has his dick in their mouth. That sound like someone who is ever going to do anything the staff asks him to do? I don't get how anyone is surprised at all. Or acting like just one thing he said or did got him banned. It's obviously an accumulation of literally years of attacking and insulting people both openly and passively and ignoring moderators because he felt like THIS would never happen. The problem is that he is a really good artist and he's done things that support the vinyl toy world and if he doesn't hate you for whatever reason he can be a really cool friend. So it's even tougher to apply the same rules that should apply to everyone because he isn't some random person. Which is probably why he's been able to treat this place and the staff and whoever he dislikes the way he has for so long. He was also one of the biggest reasons that other people didn't feel comfortable bringing new content or discussions to the forum so it works both ways. I know several toy makers who won't share their stuff here because of him. I also know several members who stopped coming here to talk toys because of him. There is a fine line between taking a shit on the toys someone makes and taking a shit on the person making them. He did both constantly. Pretty much every single person here defending him acknowledges that he trolled people but just excuses it in one way or another. Since when is it cool to treat people like shit? How is the bar set so fucking low that because he hasn't threatened anyone physically everything else is okay? Why should SB be a place where making other people miserable just to entertain yourself is acceptable? Empathy matters. Imagine how the people he has problems with feel every single time they come here. No one should have to be fearful of what someone is going to say to them or about them on SB of all places. Seriously. It's so easy to say it's just the internet or it's just words on a forum so it shouldn't matter. Fuck that bullshit. People have feelings and that should matter. I've made a few very real friendships here. Lots of us have. That matters. SB isn't supposed to be where you come to get your rocks off by saying horrible things to people you wouldn't say anywhere else. It's not that fucking hard to treat people with an ounce of respect. It's not that fucking hard to ignore people you hate. It's not that fucking hard to stop posting mean shit about someone who blocked you and who the staff told you to leave the fuck alone. Yet he refuses to do ANY OF THOSE THINGS and the fact he gets away with it gives other people the right to do the same exact thing either to him or to other members. This place would be way better off as a ghost town than being the wild west where someone can decide to shit on what you make then shit on you personally then stalk your social media accounts to look for reasons to keep fucking with you all in the name of good old harmless fun. The worst part is that he openly enjoyed every second of it. He created drama because he loved it and he said so many many times. Didn't matter who or what or why. I don't think he's actually a mean person but he sure as hell created that persona for himself on SB and he fucking loved it. I honestly believe he's a decent guy but that isn't who he chooses to be on SB at all. I personally have no problem with him whatsoever and I never have. Seeing things he's done to promote other vinyl toy makers and how he interacts with people outside of this place he's always perfectly nice to everyone but that just proves that what he does HERE is by choice. At some point he obviously decided SB didn't deserve any of the respect he gives everyone and everything else. That's not okay and I am saddened that so many people seem to think it is.
Fair points guys, I guess after seeing Glenn's tennis videos on Instagram, it just never dawned on me that anyone, would ever really be afraid of anything he did or said.
It's not a matter of "fear", it's a matter of disrespect. He accused me of using my toy show to "build your street cred so you can get good deals on hyped toys that you personally want". This is so disconnected from reality it's not even funny, and I would argue is more likely just projection. This scene is filled with rumors, conjecture, and other assorted high school-like behavior, and it really bothered the Hell out of me that this dude can piss all over the hundreds of hours I worked on my show that is nothing but a passion project as some sleazy way to score toys. And the stalker-like behavior against @Rich was just downright disgusting. End of sentence. Glenn has a big mouth and he should be thankful that he's relegated to a ban on a message board and not something much worse.
I think waterbear has made some good points, stated strongly, in his post. It's made me want to qualify my earlier posts here by saying I am maybe not the best person to weigh in on these things- to start with, I tend towards being overly diplomatic, and though I have read some of Glenn's unfortunate (fuck, there's that fucking diplomacy again!) past posts, my typical first instinct when any shit like this starts is to slowly back out of the thread and shut the door... so there's usually a bunch that happens that I miss entirely.
This. Message boards are typically a place where one needs to have thick skin. Opinions can be strong, discussions get heated, personalities butt heads. Conversely, that does not give anyone carte blanche to say whatever the fuck they want. I do not personally endorse Glenn’s banning; he’s a talented artist who has contributed a lot to the board, including a lot of threads I enjoy. Part of Skullbrain’s DNA is to allow crazy opinions and personalities, myself included. We’re a bunch of toy collecting miscreants when you get right down to it. But I think people should expect to suffer real consequences for antagonistic, repetitive trolling. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you’ve done, it doesn’t give you the right to act like a fucking asshole all the time. That goes for anyone interacting on social media platforms. If you inject negative garbage into cyberspace for long enough, you should expect some unpleasant consequences in the form of locks, temporary bans, reduced privileges, etc. Dems da breaks, childrenz. You should be able to express strong opinions without being a cyber bully. If you can’t, or are unwilling, put your smartphone down.
I mean we all know that this board is not for the weak of heart. But I can say personally that I in no way fear a negative or heated opinion on my work. In fact I expect that on SB and to be honest kind of appreciate it. Sometimes those povs help you improve. Glenn just needs to taper it back and work on making the commentary stabbing and not the low blows.
Oh come on - there is an ignore function (which I personally don't use because I think it's fucking childish). I've butted heads with Glenn myself and agree that he's been severely annoying for the past couple of weeks, but I can't recall him ever being the big bully that he's suddenly made out to be. This board's always had a reputation for being mean, yet people like @MiscreationToys manage to take it all with a grain of salt and play along with the fun. That RvG fiasco seemed utterly personal from both sides and should've been nipped in the butt long ago, because NEITHER of them could fucking let it go. Rich eventually saying "Fuck it, bring him back it's about toys at the end of the day" is the best thing in this thread. Just my ol' two cents. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ EDIT: @coma21 Oh man the gallons of shit we poured over the Kaiju Creep... Those were the times.
