Randomly, I was looking at the box of one of Marmit's cryptid finger-puppet sets (one of the Hyper Hobby exclusives) and noticed that it credits Kokomahi. Kokomahi is or is part of Akaikutsu Club. Among other things, they collaborated with Dream Rocket on the mid-size Mothman figure that came out in 2010. The style of the Marmit finger-puppets definitely matches some of the other Akaikutsu releases. Interesting to see how far back they go. Post from Waterbear copied below in the spoiler tags, in case you are not familiar with the Marmit finger-puppets. Spoiler
Probably worth mentioning here: Marmit/SHB/Karzworks (with a touch of RAMPAGE) Exhibition coming up in May at Clutter Gallery. Not sure what all will be on display - but Akamatsu will be there for sure.
For whatever reason, Yametaranese is one of those monsters that has a special place in my heart. Just a weird, goofy, scary and magical being that calls to mind the craziness that fascinated me as a kid. The blue Marmit remains one of my favorite toys, and I went nuts when I found this clear version.
Great photos. I think that one came from the year Marmit produced a series of clear w/ glitter vinyls; quite a nice effect.
Anyone know what's up with all of the Marmit paint samples that have been turning up on Mandarake over the past several months?
I was wondering the same thing! A group of Fukkukudos just popped up like meercats, and were immediately adopted. Some really nice colors too.
Rest in peace, Peter Mayhew. My family and I had the privilege of meeting Mr. Mayhew before he passed a few years ago, and the memory is now a treasure. This is the first Star Wars vinyl I have bought since a long, long.... long time ago.
@deafmetal Mark, that is absolutely incredible. I cannot think of a more fitting tribute, and Akamatsu did such a wonderful job realising this in vinyl. It is just about perfect. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, collector, and all around toy nut, I salute you and echo your appreciation for this toy. RIP Mr. Mayhew, you are not forgotten.
Just discovered Marmit's 'Space Monster Gidon' figs. Absolutely killer. What's the backstory on this guy? Was he in a film/TV series, or is he just a great Marmit creation?
@jetJagger This was a design from the 'Sekai no Kaiju' series of books (similar to Zagora, Mighty, etc.). Siccaluna Koubou produced their own version of this design, but gave it a different name.
