just for fun, thoughts? Nibiru? Life on Mars? I have just been reading in to this stuff and I have to admit with the Mayan calendar and other predictions for 12/21/2012 I am intrigued...
Nothing will happen. Though I would LOVE IT if there was something larger at work behind 2012. Whether it be the end of the world, the Earth's axis shifting, alien invasion, Jesus, or what have you...I would love to witness such a monumental change to life as we know it.
When I was down in Mexico last month I took a tour of Chichen Itza and the guide said that by the Mayan calendar we are actually in 2014 already, or something like that (I'm not sure what he was talking about exactly, but he was very informative on everything else, so I pretty much believe him. I didn't press the him on this issue though) So maybe the world has already ended and we don't even know it. Or not...
I love the idea of a zombie apocalypse. I am fascinated by the theories, although I'm sure(hoping) nothing will happen.
12/21/2012 will be my 35th birthday. This means I am the de facto alien warlord messiah. Worship me, peons.
Although I wouldn't want the world to end...That would be great if SOMETHING happened. There have been so many things that people used to predict in the past and they never manifested... (even as recent as the millennium) and unfortunately after 2012...I don't remember reading any other predictions or dates. The next "big" prediction will probably be 2999 and I won't be around to see that.
this is fun stuff....archeo astronomy and stuff like that ties in closely with these prophecies. ive heard them since i was younger, they're traditional for many native nations (I'm Cree). Similiar beliefs about the great broken pot dropping from the sky etc, the thunder birds awakening, they differ from nation to nation. Similar stories are told by the Hopi in New Mexico, Ojibwas in Manitoba, Oglala in Dakota(Sioux), Haida(west coast), etc. There are also interesting parallels with other nations prophecies, indigenous nations that aren't in any way connected geographically, for example the Dogon ppl in Africa and their beliefs about Po Tolo...which was a celebration every 51 years they held since before the documenting of hisory in that area (predating even oral history). the journey of Po Tolo celebrates the traveling around of a planet body around the star of Sirius. I think that was actually only confirmed in the scientific community in 2001 after the Hubble telescope was repaired....interesting stuff.
I love this Myan stuff - crystal skulls and the calendar coming to an end - I do not think it will be what anyone has guessed - but i did read a book that was very interesting - link is below for Slack and everyone - maybe you wanna check it out or somethin http://www.thegaiaproject.net/
every few thousand (hundred thousand?) years the magnetic poles on earth shift. this makes the tectonic plates shift, volcanoes explode, title waves crash etc. keeps the planet fresh but would 'totally thrash' us humans. I have heard the next one could happen in dec of 2012.
lol be careful what u ask for... right now you collect kaiju.... maybe kaiju will start collecting us!
Maybe I'll take Nibiru before life on Mars. Living on the moon/Mars would suck ass. The Earth is the best. the end is always near. people are always saying that. I'm just going to live my life and hopefully die old, gray, fullfilled, and on a mattress surrounded by love ones with a clean diaper on.
Gas will be at least 10 dollars a gallon, people will really start to abandon the idea of using cars that require fuel, suburban big box store culture will totally break down (thank fuck), self contained communities will be on a major rise (hopefully), the environment will start shifting towards healthy. Oh and Kaiju will cost only 25 dollars max!
This is how I envisioned 2012: http://macross.anime.net/wiki/2012 We're way the hell behind schedule. ;p About the Mayan calendar thing that someone mentioned above, someone was on Art Bell's show recently echoing the same thing, that the Mayan calendar actually ran out years ago. The native South American cultures had some great concepts about how the world is continually destroyed and recreated at the whim of the gods. The Aztecs believed that this was the fourth (or fifth?) incarnation of the world, and life was formed this time around when blood from Quetalcoatl's penis was spilled over the pulverized bones of giants he had slain.
I would love it if the moon/Mars could be habitable! I don't know if I'd want to spend the rest of my life there, but it'd be a dream come true to spend a few weeks/months on the moon.
this will happen, again The continent of Atlantis was an island which lay before the great flood in the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean. So great an area of land, that from her western shores those beautiful sailors journeyed to the South and the North Americas with ease, in their ships with painted sails. To the East Africa was a neighbour, across a short strait of sea miles. The great Egyptian age is but a remnant of The Atlantian culture. The antediluvian kings colonised the world All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis. Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth. On board were the Twelve: The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist, The magician and the other so-called Gods of our legends. Though Gods they were - And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new Hail Atlantis! Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be, Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be, Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be. Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be, Way down below the ocean where I wanna be she may be. My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah, I wanna see you some day My antediluvian baby, oh yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah, My antediluvian baby, My antediluvian baby, I love you, girl, Girl, I wanna see you some day. My antediluvian baby, oh yeah I wanna see you some day, oh My antediluvian baby. My antediluvian baby, I wanna see you My antediluvian baby, gotta tell me where she gone I wanna see you some day Wake up, wake up, wake up, wake up, oh yeah Oh glub glub, down down, yeah
I honestly believe that this is why we are so interested in Mars, and are sending so many probes/rovers there now. We are pretty close to having bled this planets resources dry and need to find a new planet to exploit. I mean, human life is THE most important thing of all right? At the expense of all other life. But how large a human infestation can just one planet withstand? Wouldn't it be great if we found another?
That argument doesn't make sense for Mars - it doesn't have any natural resources that we need for our survival. The Earth is far from stripped, and even if it were to be stripped it would still have a great abundance of water in some form. The technology and cost needed to live on a stripped Earth would be far less than that needed to terraform Mars. I don't care what the reasoning is for building colonies on the Moon or Mars - tourism is good enough to get me there!
