Just curious if anyone here has tried printing masks for painting toys if so what program did you use?
Have not tried, but the thought has come to mind. It would be fairly simple to produce a mask for a model that was digitally rendered (i.e. for a 3D printed prototype), but a bit trickier for a hand sculpted piece. Theoretically one could utilize a 3D scanner to create a digital copy to use as a frame for the imprint. As far as software goes, that'd be just a matter of preference. I work in Blender which is free to use and extremely versatile but has a steep learning curve.
I've started to mess around with blendr but youre right it's a tough one to learn. Is it more intuitive with a tablet vs mouse?
I have an old Wacom tablet I tried utilizing early on but reverted back to using a mouse very quickly. They may work well for some but I personally feel I have more precise control using a mouse. I think tablets are better suited for drafting, drawing and sketching. I have a Razer Naga which is technically a gaming mouse, but I use the 12 number hotkeys as an alternative numpad for camera navigation. I also use an older version of Blender (2.79) because I prefer and became accustomed to the UI.
