I can only concur with what has already been said. My only consolation to the rest of you is that you can at least hold off on a few purchases from JYA/Mandarake, while this 'bad time' occurs. I sure picked a hell of a time to live here. Being a broke student is one thing, trying to convert what little money I can scrape together into Yen is depressing as hell. Also, as an aside, to make matters worse us Canadians are still getting the shaft from all directions, as for some bizarre reason I can't fathom, Paypal still values the USD more, despite our loonie being above par for months now. This is really making any collecting hard if not impossible these days.
Good news lads: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 46100.html I'll believe it when I see it! Then again I'm suppose to save for a European trip all this year so it won't effect me.
You got caned! Not good at all. I went to buy something from Mandarake today and had it in my cart and left the room and when I came back it was gone....never seen that happen before...bought out from under me while I had it in my cart. Its still not back up either. The dollar is going whack-shit in Oz...somedays its up and others its down.
To read the rest of the WSJ article it unfortunately requires a paid subscription, but you could read a full article here: http://www.efxnews.com/story/9475/dollars-long-slide-vs-yen-may-finally-be-nearing-end "By 2025, he [Eishi Wakabayashi] predicts that the dollar will rise to Y180."
I've lowered my standards to 100 yen to the dollar before I go back to visit. Needless to say I probably won't be going back anytime soon.
So hope that trend prediction comes to fruition. It'll make wanting to visit again much easier. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah but isn't he the same guy who said in the future, the internet would be on computers? I am skeptical.
If anyone's been watching...the Yen is climbing. Three weeks ago it was roughly 81.5 and now it is close to, if not, at 83!!! GO YEN GO!!!!
Where was this strong dollar when I needed it the most in my insane buying sprees of 2 years ago? Of course now that I've bought like 15 toys in the last two years the yen plummets.
Meanwhile, the loonie is being crushed once again. Now at a six year low after the recent BoC announcement. With general toy prices in Yen only going up, and the C$ only going down, buying anything is becoming such a massive undertaking now. US shoppers really don't know how good they have it....
