So, someone missed out on the 2nd one for a good price because you made a bad buy and wanted to make some of your money back. You are a half-flipper, half bad consumer.
I did make a bad descision, and can live w/ that. we live and we learn. I too, think re-selling is a pain, so overall I may decide to live w/ my mistake and keep 1 chaos bagged and open 1. on a sidenote: who actually knew how limited the chaos was. I sure am glad I got the blue dragamel at flipper price.. If I would have passed on that one, I may have never seen the drag again.. or worried countless nights looking for 1.
You could probably use it as good trade bait. Sometimes I pay way too much for something, but it doesn't make me second guess my decision, because I have a hard time caring about financial security.
+10...best lesson learned after much $$ spent. Still have the itchy trigger finger tho. there are some boardmembers that feel if you buy a toy and don't like it, you should sell it as cost but also eat the shipping charges and fees. Essentially lose money on your mistake.
Is this anything new? I "like" the people who keep reposting in Wanted demanding hookups or for others to sell them what they're looking for. NOW. Instead of doing their homework, looking around on their own, or following other toy lines until their whatever surfaces. Some people have searched for years for what they desire.
I end up with doubles on some items because I buy from different sources and none of them are 100% reliable. I usually try and sell the first one that comes in at the cheapest price I paid or S7's price. A couple of times a month I buy new figures and don't like them once they are in hand. The new tttoy's are this months example, it took about 30 secs for me to realize I did not want them so they shipped out the same day they showed up. I used to wait to resell and it all ended up with bins of toy I didn't want. Now they go up the same day. Considering the number of toys I buy every month the % of toys I give the quick turnaround is very low. It does seem like a few people redo their shelfs every month. I think a lot of people are buying anything they can get hoping to use it for trade bait. When they can't trade they sell. I also think a lot of people buy stuff and sell it once they realize it is not very rare. You do seem to see the more common releases get the quick turnaround most often. Hmmm....I wonder why?
I guess sometimes you have to weigh it out: Spend years searching for your bemon.. or $30 extra bux to get it now.
I just sold a wonderfest chaos i just got a couple of days ago. When I saw it in person, I didn't really dig it. Hence, I sold it for regular price of course.
Thoughts in this thread are kinda timely for me 'cause I just received the new K-T luchador Chicken Fevers yesterday. I was totally excited about them at first, but once they arrived, I "wasn't feeling them." So ... while it's tempting to put them up for sale or trade, I'm going to live with them for awhile. It wouldn't surprise me if, in less than two weeks, I realize "what was I thinking? Of COURSE I love them!" LOL ... laughing at myself. I did that with the Rumble Monsters Dragon Engine. First got it home, was like ... hmm, no. Just a few days later ... SO glad I bought it. Again, lesson learned.
Please give the address of the establishment where rare toys can be acquired for an extra $30. hahahhahha If something is rare or unusual, why would one sell it for cold hard cash unless you have bills to pay? Why not trade it for another equally hard toy to find? I had an extra Bemon that I never really cared for. The paint looked different in the photo versus real life. Still, I held onto it for over a year. One day, a trade opened up for two hard to find pieces that I NEVER see on the market. Trade went through. Both parties were happy.
I've warmed up to some figures that didn't work for me initially. I'm hoping that happens with a GID Pollard. Trying to give the GID a chance, but really liking the other painted ones more.
I need a blue Biskup Dragamel. I have seen several Ebay auctions wanting 4 times retail price. I will be patient and wait.
Yeah, patience is fun and all, but why wait if you don't have to? The folks who search for years would've jumped on the first opportunity to get that desired item if it came up on this wonderful board or elsewhere--but maybe it didn't. I think the sooner the better--especially with all the flippers out there with their K & Y jelly (btw, I'm not tryin' to totally hate on the flippers or say I'm above it; a rare item for sale is still for sale--though suckily--but we know flippin' ain't how you win friends!) and speaking of "friends"--time isn't one of them. don't hate. If there are ppl out there who can help you find what you're looking for--to me, that 's the same as shopping around. You put the word out there, and if nothing else works, you've got that, maybe. I've been re-working my want list in hopes for some luck, but you better believe I'm searching or have already exhausted all my resources if it's up there. Homework and shopping around comes with it. Whichever comes first. For ppl who really love this stuff to come to you with something you want is a great thing. Just the same, if you can help someone out there find something they want--maybe something they thought they wouldn't find any time soon or cheaply--for a fair price or trade, it's a GREAT feeling (especially if you know what it's like to be on the receiving end) EDIT: btw, I take that back about folks jumping on the first chance. Not true. Patience is cool, but you gotta wait for what you think it reasonable. But if it comes fast, go for it! If you want to buttf*k yourself to save time--go for it!...ugh.
where exactly does patience turn into 'chasing a pipe dream' ? I can totally empathize with you guys.. but there has to be a day when NO dragamels are availble.. for any price !? This day might still be decades off, but I would rather be safe than sorry. PS - I would not pay 4x retail, thats why I jumped at the price I got! the key here is 'I got' heh
Vombie, I am going to pick on you a little bit... "why wait, if you don't have to" sounds like a flipper moto. By not waiting, I am infering that you prefer to pay way more than retail for a toy so you can have instant gratification. Homework and shopping around are part of patience, whether you admit that or not.
But doesn't it become an infinite loop of immediate gratification? A toy is released but one misses it at retail. Herd mentality and panic sets in. One buys said toy at inflated flipper prices. Herd mentality and panic fades. Toy can be found at a later date at a reasonable price. Repeat. Obviously this doesn't apply to all toy lines or releases. But I've seen it enough in my short time here. And the people who are searching for years, they are hunting for extremely unusual or rare things. Or so I have heard.
It's not just patience. It's having the judgment and perspective to know when to jump at a deal and when to hold your cards and wait for the hype machine to run out of fuel. And I think this ties into the 'doing your homework and shopping around' idea. I think extremely rare items are a different story altogether; it's not so much paying more now or less later, but having the patience to keep searching until you find it one day.
I would also argue that the toys that were the hardest to acquire are possibly more interesting as they have a history to them. I'm talking about figures that were within your grasp and escaped for one reason or another time after time. Versus something that you acquired by paying outrageous flipper fees. Another way to look at it is the guy who patiently assembles say a complete Exohead collection over a couple years versus the guy who pays mad money for a complete set.
