When I first heard I had the same reaction, Keanu as spike is going to be horrendous. But after that photo you just posted, I kinda see how it might work. Forgive my photoshop skills but...I see a little resemblance. At least it's not Shia LaBeouf.
He's way too old, though. Spike is supposed to be in his late 20s and Keanu is 44. The Japanese will gobble it up, though, they love him over there.
Yea, if he shaved off 10 years I think he'd look much better in this role. He'd have a much slimmer face to suit the role, let's see what make up can do though
Yea, that's true. I'd like to see who they cast for the other roles. Wonder who can pull off Jet and Ed.
Jet= Samuel L. Jackson (why not, Hollywierd got him playing as Nick Fury) Ed= Carrot Top (he's the only one that comes to mind for some reason)
So the first pictures from Netflix's Cowboy Bebop are out and there are plenty of people griping about how the actors playing Jet and Faye are different ethnicities from the anime versions, because it's 2021 and the usual bullshit will always spew from the usual places. If these actors can successfully convey their characters' unique inner struggles, then they are the right people for the job. But John Cho is FORTY NINE FUCKING YEARS OLD. He's older than the actor playing Jet. Spike is supposed to be in his late twenties. I don't see this working out.
I dunno, if you're going to remake something in live action, the bare minimum is to expect the main characters to look at least similar to the animated versions. Otherwise why bother remaking it - just call it 'inspired by' or whatever. Maybe the producers thought Bebop was old and off the radar enough that people wouldn't care. The worst example I can think of is Hellblazer/Constantine. In the comic his character strongly resembles Sting (Blonde, blue eyes) but what do we get in the movie? Keanu fucking Reeves. If its a slight change, then who cares? Like in the live action Ghost in the Shell. Scarlett Johansson is way too short to play the tall and athletic Motoko Kusanagi, and she's not Japanese obviously, but it didn't bother me that much. She did a pretty good job. They obviously needed a big name american to make the project viable. The best one I've seen recently was Battle Angel Alita, they pretty much nailed it for the live action version.
To be fair, Samuel L Jackson was cast as Nick Fury in Mark Millar's Ultimates before the marvel movie verse started. Also, I rewatched that dragon ball movie for some reason and boy oh boy, soooooo bad. I agree, I don't see why actors aren't allowed to act as someone else if they are from a different culture.
I don't get it either. Jet didn't seem to have any specific ethnic or racial background, and while it was eventually revealed that Faye was from Singapore, that never figured into her character in any specific way. Just based on the photos, I like how Jet and Faye turned out. My gripe is with John Cho. He looks great for a a guy in his forties, but he still looks like a guy in his forties. I can imagine this series would never have gotten made if they didn't have an established actor like him involved, but I feel like this is a big mistake.
I sculpted Jet's prosthetic arm for this. I can't speak to how it might turn out (I really don't have any idea!) but I can say the production value (sets and props and such) is going to be on the screen--some very impressive stuff. But as a big fan of the anime, I also can't help being a little worried about the final execution of capturing the story/characters.
I'm excited for this. I always enjoy re-watching the series, so it'll be fun to see the same storylines with different visuals.
this preview actually looks really good. Same for Sandman. Keeping my fingers crossed for some good tv coming soon.
Can't say that's a huge surprise, albeit I still may give it a shot later. I don't understand the need to continue to make live action versions of shows, it usually never turns out well.
The whole thing feels cheap, a lot like a genre movie from the 90s. @LastResortToys, Despite this I did think you did a very good job on Jet's prosthetic arm.
