Sure this has probably already been discussed, but I couldn't find any threads about it. Bored today, and since I am trying to avoid impulse toy buying, I decided to pull out some old stuff. I had forgotten about these little bastards and was stoked to dust them off, charge 'em up and do some racing, tuning, etc. Put some racing gears and tires on this WRX and it's almost too fast to race indoors. My Chihuahua and cats were freaking out on this strange thing zooming around the kitchen. Think todays find may have awakened a sleeping obsession in me. Already contemplating searching ebay for more. Anyone else still have any of these? Are they still made?
I have a couple but never really bought anything for them. I also have an old Subaru Impreza mini-Z from Kyosho. For it's size, the mini-Z cars are pretty fast but my biggest collection is my ChoroQ collection. There were marketed as Penny Racers here in the US. This is probably a third of the collection:
I had a modded AE86 back in the day. Swapped out the crappy antenna w/ some radio one to get more distance. Also put some tape on the back tires to do some drifts. And Bert, that's quite a collection.
I used to have a modded AE86 as well. I wonder where it really is now. Must find it. I remember bringing it to high school and racing my friend's mini RCs in the hallways.
AE86 Great ChoroQ collection Bert. Would love to see full collection pics if you got 'em. Few more pics from me: Skyline vs. Lancer (not going very far without wheels)
Had to take 4 shots and stand on my chair. I'm still missing +32 loose cars that are mixed in with the vinyl collection and a box set behind Ultraman and Garamon...You know you're out of shelf space when Manda is resting on top of a shelf of cars. That shelf is about 5 deep of cars....and yes, that's a Jenny wearing a ChoroQ swimsuit . I had to stop. If you think RxH was coming out with toys way too fast, try collecting ChoroQs. Even when I was pretty deep in it, there was stuff that was out that I didn't know about. bigger pic
Damn Bert amazing collection! I've owned a couple of these and they are fun to play with. Didn't someone produce the Ultraman 'Pointer' car in a mini-racer?
Hachi-roku...AE86 refers to the chassis. It was a rear wheel drive car with really great weight distro and limited slip diff. It's an old Toyota Corolla. The Japanese engine was great. Toyota made a racing engine, the 4age 20v, which a lot of AE86 owners would love to have but of course, won't pass smog. Like a lot of kids that watched Initial D, I have also had dreams of owning a Hachi. It is the preferred drifting machine of Keiichi Tsuchiya
Nice ChoroQ collection Bert! I have a bunch of these stored away somewhere and got most from AutoFreak in Japantown. I used to have a pretty good size collection but sold off all the unopened sets a while back. I just kept all the opened ones that I had which are now in storage. They had Buses, initial d etc... They had quite a bit of stuff to upgrade them with too like faster motors and headlights.
If you have any buses, let me know. I might buy them off you . I got a couple from AutoFreak (but they cost almost 3x more), some off ebay, some off a store in HK, and a few from HLJ. Some of the harder to find ones came from the HK store. My favorites are the JGTC sets and a few other boxed sets that I can't remember. I was searching for the name and came across this Old Garage set. I might have to get it. JGTC (from someone else's flickr)
I had 1 bus bit char-g but sold it a few years ago. If you're looking for ChoroQ buses theres another brand called Q style at Toyeast that has them. One of my favorites is the Spoon racing civic. If I had seen the old garage set back then I wouldve bought it. I love dioramas and these types of sets. Heres some from my collection. I have a few more but gotta find them. I also have some JGTC bodies for the bit char-gs/micro rc cars too. Will get a pic of them up tomorrow.
That would be sweet. Would love to see those bodies. Bert- that Old Garage set looks fun with all the older and broke down cars.
Bert - I did find one bit char-g bus. Heres a load of pictures (images are clickable) of all my mini rc cars etc.... Lots of bodies and when Tomy made pullbacks the bodies and chassis could be swapped with the mini rcs etc...
I didn't really go for the Bit char-g stuff cause the proportions of the cars feel a bit off to me. I'll take a pic of my small bus collection sometime this week. That Spoon Civic is also one of my favorites . That whole series is really nice. I have to find some of the decotora. I missed out on those. Toyeast!! Hahahaha...that's where I bought some of my ChoroQ. I don't go for the Q-style...or the US version Penny Racers. I haven't check ebay in a while for ChoroQ so I'm not sure what the newer limited stuff is. Ahhhh...maybe I'll just stop buying vinyl and go back to my ChoroQ.... Anyway, Hobby Link Japan and Toyeast are the biggest contributors to my collection. I'll shoot some of my favorites...along with the buses sometime.
Yeah Toyeast was definitely the place where I got the majority of my mini rc cars lol . Can't wait to see your collection! Toyeast has this one in their store. They have a few other ones that look similar in their ebay store.
Yes...this was the biggest problem for me. ChoroQ in general are really inexpensive so the impluse buy feeling is rather strong. $20 later and you have about 6 cars...tag on overseas shipping and all of a sudden, you're out $40...oh wait, for $20 shipping I can have 10 cars shipped. Total bill ends up being $100...all on impulse. It is rougher than buying the vinyl toys because your list will really never end with the deep back catalog of ChoroQ. I have to say, unlike the vinyl toys, I have never sold any of my ChoroQ, or given any of them away.
