The other music threads have inspired me. Do you like any bands that no one else you know listens to or even knows? For me, it would be Gaunt and Brainac. I always felt like Gaunt slipped through the cracks, and Brainiac had tragedy strike as they were probably on the verge of bigger and better things. So who do you like that leaves other people scratching their heads?
The people I know don't listen to most of the music I listen to, let alone have heard of them...and I don't listen to obscure stuff. But Frank Zappa would be my #1. I have a ton of his albums (but probably only 25%> of his catalog!) and I don't know anybody that listens to him.
Ha - I was just listening to 'One Size Fits All', "She's in love w/ the boy from the rodeo Who pulls the rope on the chute when they let those suckers go"
Although not so much now, but for a long time I was really disappointed that no one knew The Trouble, it seems as though they are finally getting thier due, albeit posthumously. A little LA band called The Assailants were fantastic, again, no one seemed to care much about them.
Probably FSA (Flying Saucer Attack)...I don't even listen to them that much anymore but occasionally I need a wall of noise ambient blast...
came here to post this. Crimes is still one of my favorite albums of all time. The Locust, everyone I know hates them so much, but I'll be damned if that remix album is not all kinds of jazzhandstastic.
Does anyone listen to the Mummies anymore? They should. Bands that should be more popular than they are: Loli and the Chones, the Revillos, Hubble Bubble, Plastic Bertrand, Smash Your Face, Conga Fury, Crucial Section, The Real Kids, The Kids, Los Violadores Bands that probably don't even deserve the piddling popularity they have but I'm going to namedrop anyway because I like them: Anadorei, Crucial Unit, The Real Losers, Slight Slappers, The Haskells, Metal Urbain, The Horribly Wrong, The Sneaky Pinks, Schund. But really, pretty much all I listen to anymore is Andrew WK and 3 Inches of Blood anyway.
Wow, I really dig The Blood Brothers. I've got a DVD of some live show. I saw Brainiac in NYC years and years ago. It was a Jesus Lizard show that I was psyched for and then I found out Brainaic was opening, so I flipped out! I don't think anyone listens to these bands: Karp Rye Coalition Shellac fIREHOSE Lightning Bolt Refused SoulSide Throbbing Gristle
backtrack - are you talking about the punk band the trouble from boston did they get back together as i went to there last show in the late 90's
The Jazz Butcher (which is not jazz) West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (vintage psychedelica) St. John Green (vintage psychedelica) i listen to Zappa too, btw
I just picked up one of their vinyl records at a store not to long ago, just liked the name, didn't listen to it yet.
