Which Godzilla movies do you think are the best? I've only seen three: the original Gojira, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, and GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack. Here is what I thought of each... Gojira - surprisingly good all around; best of the bunch in terms of overall quality Godzilla vs. Hedorah - awesome monster; decent plot; Godzilla is a better villain than hero; lame fights, mostly because of this Godzilla's strange mannerisms GMK - good special effects; decent plot; good to see Godzilla as a villain again I also watched Mystery Science Theater: Godzilla vs. Megalon, and I don't have a single positive thing to say about that Godzilla movie. I'm surprised people like Jet Jaguar. Turning Godzilla into a hero was bad enough. Adding a sidekick? Argh.
I just saw Gojira and was impressed how much better it was than the US release w/ Raymond Burr & bad editing. But, as far as the campy releases go, Gozilla vs. Hedorah is my favorite. Especially the hippy night club scene. It's70's Kaiju psychadelia, and it's freaking me out, baby!!!
Gojira is tops in my book. I'm quite pleased they released the original version (ie. no Raymond Burr). The "most fun" one for me, would be Godzilla vs Megalon, for fight scenes and characters. Goji vs Hedorah is always a good one, as well as Goji vs Gigan (try and find the Japanese version...the monsters "talk" to each other and have little manga world balloons over their heads when they do).
destroy all monsters (of course) ghidrah, the three headed dragon godzilla vs. gigan (has the 4 best monsters in my opinion) godzilla vs. mechagodzilla '74 some of the heisei films are pretty good too
Jet Jaguar was a pretty transparent attempt on Toho's part to make their own Ultraman. They were pissed that Tsuburaya was having so much success with a big silver hero, so they figured they could do the same thing. Boy, were they wrong. Here's an interesting bit of trivia: early posters of Godzilla vs. Megalon have Jet Jaguar named, "Red Aaron."
I just rewatched final wars and that one is killer, non stop destruction. I also like vs. mechagodzilla '74
yes - but hard to find out. to me all of the godzilla movies really boring besides some cool fight scenes. pretty much comparable to porn movies. ...like a wise porn addicted friend of mine used to say: even the worst porn has one good scene. anyway fxxxk godzilla!!! "gamera - revenge of irys" is the cooler movie. impressive effects, a nice young girl and irys is a mahoussive monster!
possibly my favorite because I remember seeing it for the first time as a kid and Jet Jaguar being way creepy. Will also go down in history as the critics worst Godzilla movie. Final Wars has to be my current.
Same here, G vs. Megalon is actually the first movie I can remember seeing in the theater. I know it's terrible but I love it, but I'm a little off center. Personally I HATE, HATE, HATE, Final Wars. The effects are great, and I dig the whole Destroy All Monsters remake angle, but the plot was horrible. Even by Toho standards. It was like a crappy X-Men/Matrix knock-off, and the worst part is it cut into some great fight sequences. C'mon, 2 friggin seconds for Hedorah! Total bullshit! It could have been so much better without that bad story line and with more fighting. The part where Goji kills the Ameri-Goji was the highlight for me.
ah! you know...that one...it had...the wargames kid in it... LOL! i can not get into the newer/g-force ones for anything. Though Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is beautiful...and has got a lot of the points being the reason why I love the Godzilla issue. The original of course...for all time! Though, I have never gotten a chance to see the original original one and am very glad to have spotted the new release of that the other day. way looking forward to picking that up. I like Godzilla vs Gigan...the whole artist character and amusment park deal...and the cockroaches! oh yeah...and "sounds like trouble". Destroy All Monsters gets watched the most in this household. But I think my absolute fave would have to be Godzilla vs. Monster Zero. Love it. Love it. The characters and relationship issues and points so round out that movie for me.
Wha...Does he fight the roboKong? I'm thinking only Kong fights the Robot (KingKongEscapes)... then KingKong vs.Godzilla as well.
I might be mixed up...it was a movie I saw maybe 35 years ago? they go to an island, theres an evil dude on an aircraft carrier and a giant robot ape? I remember when i was a kid the part in godzilla where they use the oxygen pill to kill the fish in the tank freaked me out really bad. and godzillas roar scared me.
right. that's the one. I'm always hoping to pick up the (i think it's Bandai) Kong figure. Spot it on ebay now and again.
