I have not heard of that mag, so I will check it out.

I've always liked Terrorizer as they covered a wide range of music. Besides, Terrorizer has now been around for a long time...

Every time I try to compose a reply I erase it because it sounds like an old man telling kids to get off his lawn. I like hardcore. I think metal is boring. The two should never cross.

Maybe. Most of my small circle of friends listen to a lot of metal but every records they've played me has been boring. Even if I don't like it, I'm happy that they listen to metal instead of emo metal though.

hah..the fact is I really reaally like jupiter..it was produced by brian mcternan who is a dc native/local. I think as a different band its pretty much a flawless rock album. they should have been huge...i heard all sorts of horror stories about what the major label did they when they signed...its a shame because theyre all very talented...

on and body bag by rain on the parade...anybody...

    Dear Skylar,
Never EVER use Carcass and BT in the same sentence ever again. Sorry buddy but I'm gonna have to dock you a couple metal scene points.

Now onto the topic at hand:
I for one am not really into that whole noisy/hardcore/(cough)metal stuff like converge, barrit, botch, Kiss It Goodbye etc. Chokehold never did much for me... I think I dug them cause they were vegan. I love Bloodlet (little known fact: I saw one of their first couple shows in florida and they covered BOLD of all bands). I LOVE Earth Crisis (Destroy the Machines is a great album). Hardcore that borrowed from metal = OK. Hardcore bands that pretend they are metal (Bleeding Through and the rest of that metalcore shit) = garbage.

    Thank you and goodnight

wait, I get docked for that?! but I mean, in the context of the sentence I was trashing BT and praising Carcass!! that's not fair. I call for a re-revaluation.

when i was 16 cave in were metal gods to me, well as godly as someon can be playing to 20 kids and sleeping on your floor. my love lies with those 2 records.
big label or no, i blame weed for their mellowing and the fact that steve and the boys are a good few years older than i. it seems to be the natural process that around the age of 25 hardcore kids loose their rage(haha myself included) and either start making stoner rock or acoustic country(this also maybe weeds fault). that is unless you are an insane genius like chris callohan then you never change, ever. god how i love him.

Chris is one of the best people in the hardcore scene. If spent a day one on one with every boneheaded hardcore kid; the scene would be a better place.

That sounds like a mag for me, thanks fo the link. I love Jazzkammer and was lucky to see them at No Fun Fest. I have always loved Hardcore and Noise but I have sort of graduated from the hardcore scene since almost everything has turned to 'metal-core'.
And Acme was by far underated... so was Namanax.
Looks like I might get to see Boris for SXSW!
Glad some people here have similar taste in music, I know its not for everyone.

I HATE this. seriously. I'm 27 and dude, I'm still pissed. all my friends who are my age or older all pretty much exclusively listen to indie rock or psychadelic folk and all that stuff now. not that I don't like that stuff too, but I still want to tear shit up. I have the urge to stage dive at least once a week.

Chris Callohan is one of the only guys in a band that I ever wrote to. kindred spirits.

ok, so right, hardcore retirement plan 101:

1 you either become a dj and spin music @ britpop and/or punk nights.
Mind all of you..Im not putting this down. I just happen to have alot of friends who have done this. any east coasters seen dj stereo faith?

    2. Get into alt-country. start a band because you saw lucero.
    3. become a total recluse..only emerging from time to time to hang and have people ask you about what you've been doing.
4.Become the over-indulgent rocker. stoner, garage. whatever. leave everybody in the dust because youre not ready to settle down yet

skinheads- please see next issues guide to your rockabilly retirement plan.

re:number 2....I hate.. I hate lucero and alt-country...to me its the bleeding through of country...unless your name is jeff tweedy please do not attempt this.. I am a big fan of americana roots music and alt-country makes me want to vomit.

Skylar, it doesn't get any better as you get closer to 40. I'm sure the guys over 40 will tell you the same thing. I can't hang out with the kids and the people my age grew out of hardcore.

I still venture out from time to time for a show but the kids aren't playing anything I'm interested in anymore. I've found that non hardcore bands are playing better hardcore than hardcore bands these days.

I really do feel like those hippies I made fun of in the 80s for hanging on to something that died a long time ago.

Today is the age of information overload.

There are too many bands and too many CDs that finding good new music can be a quagmire to wade through.

I agree with Kohler when he says "non hardcore bands are playing better hardcore than hardcore bands".

    >this and how death metal guys end up making dark ambient music....
I find this refreshing and interesting. I realize a lot do not.

As an example, that's why I like Aaron Turner, Greg Anderson, Stephen O'Malley, and Plotikin...these guys are all over the place in there music endeavors. They are not afraid to be different. I think the results are often unique and noteworthy.

Goatsnake, Sunn 0))), Isis, Old Man Gloom, Lotus Eaters...etc.
