just like ali g & borat,,the bruno character was best when the public was completely unaware (and the same shtick hadn't been flogged to death).. it is a shame that he did not just leave it at the ali g show for channel 4... once they did the ali g in the USA shows,,both the ali g & borat characters were old (although there was a bit of mileage with the bruno character,,,at the new york fashion week shows was too classic) here is the first ever bruno appearance from the ali g channel 4 show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajMsfw8-RUY even though the ali g & borat flims were both complete crap,,i will still go see bruno (probably tonight for the bargain price of £12-£14 in the west end...ouch!!!)
I'd rather travel back in time and molest myself (thus causing years of trauma) than give this choad a dime. if he likes pushing buttons so much and taping the reaction, then why didn't he show up to an Obama rally dressed as a gay clansman? hoo hoo hoo that would be so funny. Comedy died 20 years ago.
Likely because he wouldn't get a reaction quite as moronic as if he goes into areas where people drank the Kool Aid and actually think Glen Beck has an IQ over 75 and then panders to those people's prejudices. Some people actually respect Sarah Palin, they aren't capable of critical thought or reflection, and their prejudices are entrenched. Its best just to laugh at them. He would have been exposed almost instantly at an Obama rally, some segments of North American society actually are aware of current events and cultural figures. Ignorance is not something to aspire to among Democrats, whereas the GOP prizes, endorses and encourages ignorance.
I loved the Ali G show and liked, but didn't love as much, Borat. Putting aside for the moment any political or philosophical opinions about the movie, I really wanted it to be very funny. Next to the "G" man himself, Bruno was my favorite character from that show Unfortunately, I feel like I wasted $10.50 on a ticket. In short, it wasn't funny or even slightly clever. Sacha Baron Cohen's act needs to evolve or his best days are already behind him. FWIW.
I'm not so sure I agree. Seems to me it's only the far right crazies that are willing to kill or die for their "cause". You don't have crazy lefties trying to assassinate Bush, or running into Phillip Morris with a bomb strapped to their chest, or tying up an Evangelical evolutionist and dragging them behind their pickup truck until their nothing more than a bloody smear across a redneck highway. Seems to be "god" brings out the worst in a lot of people.
I think if someone is "right" or "left" that's fine. It's when they define themselves with actual "parties" where things stop making sense to me. Anyway, heard the movie was funny from my wife. Not "pay full price" funny, so I'll rent it and be satisfied, I think. But things like talking ween's are always enough to get me in the door.
Perhaps its the lack of carnage and destruction. The far left didn't lie the US into an unnecessary war and also isn't particularly likely to try to kill Sasha Baron Cohen because he's pretending to be gay. I guess I care far less when some guy moves into a Redwood trying to stop a logger as opposed to someone causing over 500,000 people to die over oil and corporate interests.
I think both parties are perfectly ok with killing. Regardless who is in office wars, and profiteering continue. It's when people believe they are in the right regardless of evidence is when you have them feel comfy enough to kill.
Obviously. That's like saying the world is round. Yep and who started the killing (in the current conflict)? Right wing Jihadis on 9/11, followed by right wing Evangelicals enabled by left wing hypocrites, in Iraq. I believe Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 so don't buy any of the pretexts given for the war. I'd also like to see prosecutions at the highest level for Cheney and his ilk. Until that happens I'll not be happy with the Democrats. Both parties suck but I have far more contempt for the GOP and believe Republicans are far more culpable for the atrocities carried out in my name. Anyway I don't feel like arguing politics so lets go back to a discussion of how stupid someone needs to be to be fooled by the most over the top gay stereotype possible. I applaud Sasha Baron Cohen for publicly exposing the lamentable ignorance of so many US citizens using both Borat and Bruno.
For an interesting read, check out, "The Authoritarians," by Bob Altemeyer. It kind of blew my mind. You can read it for free in it's entirety here: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/. Click on the "Whole Book" link to get the .pdf.
I like how more posts on this thread are about politics than the movie. Looks like Sascha Baron Cohen has done it again! Mission accomplished. hahaha! This was hilarious by the way. If you didn't think so, you don't have enough queeny gay guys in your life.
